Do you support the RMT?

Extremely vindictive of them.to strike over the weekend and vastly affecting yesterday's plans for people.
They don't have my sympathy anymore nor from a lot of people I speak too.
Seems to be now that they are intentionally being twats and not compromising.
Fuck you we don't need the trains anyway as yesterday proved!

You really need to educate yourself before posting such guff.

Because of Tory Govt legislation any attempt to strike can only be called by winning the approval of members in a ballot which is what was done. However that same legislation means that mandate has a time limit imposed of 6 months to be valid ( you may recall the nurses strike recently where they and Govt went to court to establish the final day they could strike due to the mandate ) and once that 6 month period has passed no further industrial action can be taken without a new mandate. Its an imposition imposed by the Govt to restrict workers rights and impose costs upon the unions with a view to breaking them.

So yesterday was the final day of the Unions valid mandate. Future actions will require a new mandate. They are not being twats they are fighting for a future safe railway for you and me - for a strike to be effective it will cause inconvenience but not to the people who own the franchises - don't worry about them they are reimbursed any losses from strike days by the Govt - well I say the Govt I mean you and me as tax payers. The Govt admitted in January that they had already spent more reimbursing the train companies out of the public purse than it would have cost just to settle the unions wage claims in full - I dread to think what that figure is now.

I didn’t realise that this thread was a three line whip… It’s a debate isn’t it?

They’re using joe public (including our fans) as leverage… And pissing quite a few off in the process
No point in striking if it doesn’t effect things/people that’s the whole point, if Joe Public vote these cunts out then hopefully the next government will sort it out. If they go on strike between midnight and 6am they could do that forever it affects no one, the point is to show how much they are needed, I’d have much rather used the train yesterday instead of basically a 10 hour drive.

The same Joe Public that voted them in you mean?

And while being remunerated with our money for strike day losses, they are handing out thousands of millions in dividends and bonuses and topping up executives‘ eye-watering salaries.
Oh…. And running really crap services.

Why not? How come no one gives a fuck about non working class types of jobs? Why shouldn’t they be paid what they are getting? Is it too much for a working class man or woman to earn £40k for doing a job? People have been brainwashed into believing we can only earn so much. Try having a look at Accountants, marketing Managers, and all the others that pay more but never get mentioned. Only jobs done by working class people have to limit what they ought to get. When they start capping those wankers in the city getting millions in bonuses then we can face a look at people who keep our trains safe and moving.
And MPs! I think that the pay offer to public service workers is reasonable, providing MPs accept the same level of 'reasonableness'!

I reckon if you offered them.all 100k a year they still wouldn't be happy.
I know its not all about pay far from it but they are losing public support.
Gish some of them get nearly 60k a year and still fucking moan.

Daily Mail is strong in this one.

The majority of rail workers are just above minimum wage. New ones are on 3 year "apprenticeship" contracts (including drivers) that are being paid the legal minimum.

We've got bullshit job managers earning 60/70 grand a year. Where's the outrage in that?

It’s actually less than that for some, e.g. train drivers employed by Northern Rail.

Fantasy Ireland posted a link in another thread last week.

But as you know, and has been pointed out countless times train drivers aren't represented by the RMT.

@Cricket Blue please report to the Aslef thread, you naughty boy.

So to ask an obvious question why do some staff stay In the industry? If they are that unhappy then why not choose a different industry?
I get some of the frustration and having not had a pay rise myself for 3 years now.
But others are the same, to be a lot of the demands seem unrealistic, where is the compromise from both sides?
