Not just that.. what was our #1 complaint this season??

Rodri wasn't going to get enough rest!!!!!

And in all honesty.. we saw the warning signs on the wall.. KDB injured.. Gundo carrying the massive load at 33 years old and Rodri playing 60 odd games for us.

We desperately need a midfield refresh..

Maybe we shouldn't get all nostalgic about the treble as the players aren't getting any younger.

Also it also changes the way we play so defenses will need to evolve as well against us!

I don't think its about money at all or the Saudi deal makes the most sense.

Likely to do with happy wife happy life.

I completely agree; the motivation for the move doesn’t appear to be money at all, which makes it even harder to believe that Barcelona topped our offer by such a margin.

Inbetween us having a verbal agreement and Ilkay actually signing, Barca came in with €3m more per season and an additional year on the deal to what we were offering. Unfortunately that’s that! Good luck Gundo, thanks for the memories!

Yeh apparently there deal is in effect 3 years (2 with option on 3rd)- we were only offering 2 (1+ option on second year). Tbh for his age I’m not sure a 3 year contract would have been ideal long term but if he had another season like this year next year then it would have justified it in the short term and who would really care if he then dropped off a cliff after that. It’s even weirder that we are so opposed to giving him an extra year taking him to 35 years old when we gave mahrez a 2 year extension last summer taking him to 34 years old (for a right winger!) and who has offered nothing like what gundogan has in terms of on the pitch and off as well

I wonder if FDJ might be an option with Bernado going the other way, seeing as the only money Barca have is really int heir assets its the only way I could see Bernado going there. Seems to be a lack of interest in him or at least thats the case based on whats being said in the media.

If we do that you could say it’s great business. But then comes the hard task of replacing Bernado

Kind of crazy that Gvardiol has stayed with his current agent during the biggest summer of his life.

You heard anything other than what’s been published RE Rice or a Gundo replacement? I know you’ve said we’re keen and he’s got huge admirers etc but given Gundo appears gone, can you see it happening? If not, do you think we sign anyone else in midfield?

Kalvin just said he is staying here , he has learnt what pep does and is going to be better second season hopefully , any new player might take a season to settle as well, who knows

I am no fan of Phillips, but getting rid of him now does seem like throwing the baby out with the bath water. We should see if he has learned. Imo Rice would fair no better next season with us with no guarantee he would ever be able to perform at the level we need. Better to invest in different options like the wings or creative midfielder
