Declan Rice

I don't think City as an organisation will think like that, and I certainly don't think like that. The decline will happen if the club do stupid things like letting the squad age unnecessarily, and not refresh the squad in preparation for his exit.
I think City probably don't get another midfielder in this summer and we'll brief that we're comfortable with what we have in mid July. Pep will perform miracles and we'll make it 4 in a row.

The problem is when Pep goes. There's nobody comparable and we won't be able to pass on targets and sit on our high horse as much. If we don't shift from that stance a little, there may be choppy waters ahead

Can’t keep relying on Pep having to do that though?

Sure looks like we had a valuation and Arsenal went above our valuation so we walk away.

Just as we have done before and will do again.

It appears to be a club policy that has been in place for some time. During which time we have won plenty of trophies.

Some people may say we bottled it, some will say they did or didn't want him.

I think he strengthens Arsenal quite considerably. Mind you they have the Champions League fixtures to add to their schedule this year so they need to.

I'm not the slightest bit worried though. We just won the treble and that smile will take quite some downturn to remove.
Exactly. Shame we missed out but arsenal just showing that they are big spenders net after Manu. We are well run club and we have to make a stance or it will be daylight robbery.

I am slightly worried we need to rebuild the team. Rice fit the profile but we have to go back to the drawing board.

I watch this video today made me realise we are light in many areas and aging has to be considered.

Honestly, feel zen about this even though I behind this signing to be made. Hopefully it will work out!

Not fussed about dropping out of this deal, I'll be perfectly happy with Kovacic, Gvardiol and playing Foden in midfield, Phillips should get more minutes too next season.

Nice lad Declan wish him all the best. If we wanted him he would be ours. Nice bit of maguireness from us to drive it a bit if true. I’ll find out later when I speak to my man at the helm.

Knowing when to move on players is key to evolving a team without going backwards. I personally think that winning a treble, finally getting the CL trophy, after trying to leave the club for 3 years, is going to motivate Bernardo even more to leave. And if he stays, there's a bigger chance he'll coast.

KDB and Mahrez have not consistently expressed a desire to leave City. Hence, I'm not overly worried about replacing them because their attitude remains correct.
Bernardo coasting? Unimaginable. However, if ANYONE on the squad, young, old or otherwise at any time goes sideways for whatever reason off they go and enter a new talent, simple as. Continues to be the plan...

Hopefully the club get Gvardiol sorted quickly and can then discuss with Pep what he wants to do with the midfield.

Re Bernardo, I think we should look at getting his replacement identified and in early, so we aren't in a tough spot later down the line. Even from a squad size perspective we could do it. Perrone, Palmer look to be off on loan, Gvardiol=Laporte's replacement, if Walker goes we aren't replacing him and Cancelo won't be at the club. With Pep going in 2 years, and our success last year, bnow is a good time to refresh and increase the squad.

I said last night we should pull out at that price and glad we have. Rice is not a £100m footballer and whilst he would have strengthened the squad would not have improved our team. Let Arsenal fans get giddy (again). We know it always ends in tears.

Don't need an extra midifielder. Just got to start trusing Kalvin Phillips (providing he is in shape) and we will have Bernardo Silva for one more sesason. We may have plans for James McAtee too.

I like Rice, maybe not for £100mil mind, but hes good, and with better players around him, he will be shine. good signing for the Arse, and would have been a good one for us. Think we need to get Gvardiol done as we could do with another leftie at the back, i think pulling out at £100m and getting Gvardiol is more important at the moment. im sure Pep and co will have someone else lined up in midfield

Chances of anything being breaking news on here are very very slim nowadays.
Agreed, hence why I never claimed my post was breaking news... \0/

If I had time to elaborate (I'm now on my lunch break), I'd have pointed out a couple of posts I made late last week...

1. Something seemed off with this transfer, as all the noises were coming from WHU & Arsenal with zip from City, so this seemed to have echoes of Bellingham about it.

2. I can't recall City being involved in any public auctions. We have our valuations & the players we tend to acquire ONLY want City, hence why we get the calibre of player we get, who are certain what they want, & back it up with a principled attitude toward coming to the Etihad.

3. I also floated the possibility that City might have an interest in Rice at our valuation, but our interest could possibly be about driving up the purchase price for Arsenal. Their initial £70m bid now stands at £105m because of City's ONE matching bid. Mission accomplished by Txiki?

4. Our initial bid matching Arsenal's offer was a bit weird. Unless we knew Rice only wanted City, why bid the same as Arsenal when we knew their £90m offer had just been rejected?

5. If we'd bid again topping Arsenal's £105m offer, we could possibly have had our bluff called & ended up paying £20m more than our valuation for Rice.

6. The only people who TRULY know what's happening with Rice are WHU, Rice, Arsenal & City. It's why I always take ITK info with a pinch of salt.

7. My initial "Well well well" post reflected all the above, not because I'm ITK, but because this transfer never seemed right, albeit I'm a big fan of Rice (the player, not Pilau or Uncle Ben's, but I must admit I'm partial to a plate of Basmati).

8. Several posters reported it was ALWAYS Rice to Arsenal & there was little real interest from City? Are they ITK? Lucky? Or did they just connect the dots & make an informed, & ultimately correct calculation based on the evidence in front of them? \0/

Many of those who were resolute in their claims that Rice wasn't coming here were run down & cursed off with derisory comments about their info. Are they now due apologies from those who dismissed their info as total shite?

Rice's transfer/non-transfer is just part of the annual Summer Transfer Window merry-go-round, & personally I take little notice of the speculation & only see it as a bit of fun to fill in the days until the new season commences.

Until I see the player sat next to Txiki with a biro in one hand & City shirt in the other, I pay little more than cursory interest. I learned my lesson with the Isco Disco! :-)
