Declan Rice

It's a hell of an amount for them to splash on one player when they really need to sign 3 new defenders.
And a world class goalscorer. Not saying Rice doesnt improve them but their midfield of Xhaka/Partey/Odergaard was decent anyhow….

I wouldn't have signed either Rice or Havertz for £170 mil if i was them….

I think City probably don't get another midfielder in this summer and we'll brief that we're comfortable with what we have in mid July. Pep will perform miracles and we'll make it 4 in a row.

The problem is when Pep goes. There's nobody comparable and we won't be able to pass on targets and sit on our high horse as much. If we don't shift from that stance a little, there may be choppy waters ahead
Why tho? Pep does not set club policy. That's an entirely different function performed at an elite level by Txiki and others who don't get nearly enough credit for the phenomenal job they do in managing the roster and the finances as well as maintaining an outstanding academy at all levels. While Pep is the orchestra conductor at first team level there are quality individuals throughout the organization that make us as successful as we are. I don't subscribe to the theory that Pep is a miracle worker and that we're doomed if he leaves. That's nonsense. While he is the best manager in the world I'm convinced there are others who would achieve great success within our structure. Is someone going to tell me someone like De Zerbi would not be winning trophies at this City? If Pep were to leave in 2 years, which I'm in no way certain he will, I'm sure we'll bring in someone in line with the levels we've established. Meanwhile, can we please stop and smell the roses just a bit instead of worrying about fucking 2025...

Arsenal have not won the league for 20 years. So it depends on what you mean by big club.

If you are talking historical before 92 then what about Nottingham Forrest for example or Aston Villa Are they not big clubs?

Currently City and Maybe Liverpool could claim big club title based on the silverware won over the last ten years.

Arsenal are just another club with money due to the premier leagues commercial power. I don’t understand the argument of big club.

By your logic, every team that has won in the past is a big club.
with all due respect, and despite the little dig and dodgy logic, i'm not getting dragged into an argument here.

its all about opinions and in my opinion Arsenal are still a big club.

I wonder if he does sign for Arsenal he will be known as the £105m Rice in the same way Jack was known for at least a season as £100m Grealish? Funny how Enzo Fernández wasn't known as £105m Fernández

I worry about what our plan C is after Bellingham and Rice.

We talk about Txiki finding Dias, but he also brought in Gomez as a plan B and he was miles off it.

Gomez actually is not proper plan b at all, he originally a CFG loanee turned into squad player when our only Fullback signing last summer Cucu not possible anymore.

No they need to spend that much to compete with filthy rich City with their huge squad of 2 sets of world class 11’s : )
I was told we have 3 world class squads to choose from at my lads training last night by one of the other dads after the coach (Arsenal fan) told us to leave some players for everyone else. I bit for the first time in a long time. I also had a smug rag telling me last week we’ve definitely cheated and their new wonderful Arab owner would be behind his desk at the swamp before the week was through.

Not sure that there is a precise definition of huge club. Or big club or small club. They're all fairly subjective terms. Just like words such as legendary.

But I'm nearly 60 and I've grown up witnessing Arsenal winning lots of silverware, so for me they are at least a big club. Maybe huge should be reserved for the likes of Bayern, Real, Juve, Barca, Milan and of course City. Can't think of any other clubs deserving of the title huge to be fair.
I'm guessing you leaving out Liverpool and United wasn't done on purpose?
LOL : )

Based on what? Simple question you can’t answer. Leave at that. Maybe think about what you are typing before pressing send If you can’t defend your point. All this big club nonsense is daily star territory anyway.

That isn't really what she said.

She said that Arteta might have asked Guardiola to put in a bid just to encourage Arsenal to go in all guns blazing.

That idea is fundamentally absurd.
So are the ideas he was ridiculing. Both are absurd. We clearly wanted him, but valued him at a certain price or less. Once Arsenal bid above our valuation we bowed out.

Now we've developed a reputation for not paying above our valuation. And historically this has worked out splendidly.

I personally loveed the news we had pulled out. It was what I hoped for.

The Rodri we signed isn't the one we have now.

Was Rodri worth 2 Fernandinhos?
Yes. And he was a year and a half younger than Rice now, coming from a top European club, already playing for one of the best national sides in the world, not one that just narrowly avoided relegation or constantly underperforms in international tournaments.

But I was also one of the few on here that always rated him and spent countless hours defending him in his performance threads as people slagged him off, called him Plodri, and demanded that he be sold as soon as possible.

It's also worth remembering that just because Bernardo was a good boy and buckled down after not getting his move the last 2 years, doesn't mean he will this year.

Prior peformance no indicator of future results etc.

I don't think it's in his character to do what Cancelo did, but the Mrs. wants away, new kid coming, easy to take your eye off the ball and let other things in life take priority.

Plus IIRC Cancelo, Gundogan, Sterling and Laporte were some of Bernardo's closest friends at the club, and they're all gone/going.
John Stones is still here :)
