Then do we rate Doyle about the same then ?Phillips is lower half Prem/Championship level.

I was convinced that Rice was the player to get but we have to accept that the club has a different way of conducting transfers which has served us well previously.Though I wasn't convinced Rice was the player to get, I wish City would sometimes not give a shit about the Net-Spend trophy and the criticism of our spending, not give a fuck and just blow them all away.
The club has earned the money.
Yes.Then do we rate Doyle about the same then ?
I will be amazed if Phillips turns it around at city ,just can't see it happening .Average Premier league player, not elite level, I hope he proves me wrong but I can't see it happening and I simply don't think pep trusts him.
Heard all the stories about him coming good this season, again it would amaze me, several of our signing underwhelmed early doors but their quality was always there (Bernardo, Grealish, Ake) not sure we have seen anything from Phillips.
Removed a few posts, but let's keep the thread on topic please. It's about Declan Rice, not Eni Aluko.
The hierarchy wanted him and his release clause was 100M. That’s why 100M was sanctioned. But just because that’s what was paid doesn’t equate to whether he’s worth that. Also, because he was part of the treble winning team also doesn’t mean he was worth that fee. This was used as a reason for not buying him for £100m. However, when the stats were drilled down, over the previous two seasons Jack had by far the most progressive carries leading to key passes, which may or may not become an assist dependent on whether the attack resulted in a goal or not.
The crucial work he does generally goes under the radar, but it's vital to the build up. In this respect, Grealish is unique, hence a £100m transfer was sanctioned.
Mate, it’s not disrespect because I have a different opinion to you. You think he’s worth the 100M we paid, I don’t.The disrespect Grealish still gets from our own fans never mind the media considering the season weve just had and the part he played in that is just mind boggling.
Mate I don't believe any player's worth £100m, but we can blame the European elites of Real, Barça, Juvé & ManUre for historically driving up transfer fees to the ridiculous levels we have today. The hierarchy wanted him and his release clause was 100M. That’s why 100M was sanctioned. But just because that’s what was paid doesn’t equate to whether he’s worth that. Also, because he was part of the treble winning team also doesn’t mean he was worth that fee.
I’m not saying that he’s not contributing. He has done this year. His ball retention is very good and there are other attributes that he brings. What I’d argue is that it’s not 100M worth. I would expect more end product from someone that plays in his position for that sum of money, that’s all.
Like they do with Enzo thingymejig at Chelsea?£45M too much imo, but time will tell.
I just hope the media continually refer to him as "£105 MILLION Declan Rice'.
Some are still in their Mancini foxholes (and older). Those still going on about Grealish remind me of those Japanese soldiers in the jungle not realising the war had finished..
That's fair enough, but we were prepared to offer £90 million for him. So £15 million short. The lad is 24, so possibly 10 years service if the signing works out. That's £1.5 million per year which is peanuts in modern football terms. Then we still have to identify someone else with the ability, physicality, and potential to improve that Rice would have brought, which isn't going to be cheap. Lots of focus on the pros of pulling out of this deal, but we need to recognise the cons also.Rice isn't worth that money imo, glad the club have decided to move ahead with other plans.

I actually think that his contributions have been overstated by some in the media and on this forum. Post World Cup he had 2-months where he stood out. At a time when the Team needed players to step up. So he’s definitely contributed to the achievements of the Team. I think his end to the season was pretty ordinary.
I like him as a player and I like him as a member of the Team. I just don’t think he’s 100M value worth. And I don’t think Rice is either. We’ll have to agree to disagree.
"I just don’t think he’s 100M value worth". - How do you arrive at your valuations? What are your criteria? Is there a calculation or is it just gut feeling?Mate, it’s not disrespect because I have a different opinion to you. You think he’s worth the 100M we paid, I don’t.

He has if we were gonna go around calling him Decky… :-)Good luck to Decky. Time will tell if he has made the right choice.
