It's bizarre to say the least.

I get the desire to push the scoreboard on, but the opposition teams are just going to serve up these short balls knowing we might score a few but will get out. If we're 400-5 I don't mind it. Might get us to 500+ quickly. But looking comfortable with 1 wicket down, it's a chance for Pope to go and get a big score and let the likes of Bairstow, Brook, Stokes play the big shots later on with the Aussies in despair.

If Root had have been out with his awful shot, we're suddenly in a little bit of bother. Root is a world class batsman that can score quickly safely. Why he has decided to change his style of play I do not know. Just play your usual approach, get your runs and let the others play that attacking style because ultimately they're boosting their averages by doing it and yours is already exceptional.
 
Hard to know what to say. Very good innings but he had been struggling for a few mins and surely just needed to play his way through it. Shame for him. Not something I like to say but Cmon Yorksha
 
I fear we’ve gone too far in the ‘need to be entertaining’ camp.

Not a chance we’re coming back in the series if even a little amount of brain isn’t used.

I could understand it if Pope hadn't been dismissed the same way earlier. Edging towards a century, nerves creep in but just no need to play that shot. The Aussies can bowl dross all afternoon and we can watch it go by. Shame for him, but a very good knock and as long as we don't now collapse we're in a strong position.

Australia were 198-3 then 316-4 before being 416 all out. It's been much like the first test where it continues to swing through poor shots more than great bowling.

The way Brook plays we may well be 4 down and feel like we're in a bit of trouble soon with just under 200 left to chase!
 
When people are doing really stupid, inexplicable, things it’s because they’re confused or conflicted.

These batsmen are fucking up and doing stupid things because they aren’t comfortable or don’t understand the message they’re getting from the coaching.
 
Fucking braindead this from England. Don’t have to hit every ball. Throwing the game away once again. Too much ego in this team
