Gabri Veiga

The reality is he is raw, and Pep would likely not trust him enough to give him serious minutes. I feel we need another midfielder that is more experienced and polished.
Do you think a midfield of KDB, Bernardo, Foden, and Kovacic would be enough? Just asking...

The Club itself already stated that the group of players you mentioned isn't sufficient. They initially briefed that Kovacic was essentially a squad player and not a replacement for Gündoğan.
After they whiffed on their top 2 targets all of sudden Jack at the Daily Mail was reporting that Kovacic was the Gündoğan replacement. Funny how the message changed after we struck out.

I think it did depend somewhat on Phillips mate but the narrative has changed after missing out on Rice I do agree.

Harsh...

Clearly he doesn't. As he has said he thinks we need someone more established :)
More established than KDB and Bernardo? I think Foden is a better option than Rice or Bellingham right now and certainly going forward. We'll find out soon enough : )

The club never briefed anything of the sort.

Fuck knows but the man got his arsehole handed to him in the home semi final.
He went with his trust my guys to do the right thing approach and they shit the bed big time. This was one time that plan didn't work out. We beat the effin' breaks off of them...

Than Veiga.

Agree on the Foden point.
I see his point but I'm looking at Veiga as the 5th AM/CM. I never saw the need for Rice unless Phillips was going and Kovacic was being moved further back. Last season we went with basically KDB, Gundo, and Bernardo, that's it. Alvarez played in a hybrid role later on when KDB was hurt or rested. Foden started playing some centrally very late on and looked very promising there. It's a point of fact that KDB went off at 35 minutes, nil-nil, and Foden came into midfield and we won a CL final with him there, outplaying Gundo as well to be fair. If we get sufficient coverage in the front wide positions I think KDB, Bernardo, Foden, Kovacic, and Veiga would be more than sufficient. JMO

Yes, they did. Jack initially reported City viewed him as a versatile player that could play as a 6 or an 8 for City. Essentially a Jack of all trades that would wear multiple hats.

Then after Rice was out he reported that that he was the replacement for Gundogan. He went from the versatile player that would fill multiple hats to here is your Gundo replacement.

Isn't that the very definition of Gundo's role in the squad? He's played everywhere except wide for us, often in the same game.

If you think City would while they are trying to buy Kovacic they would be be briefing he’ll be a bit part player filling in for others when required and expect him to sign, that’s a ridiculous idea. He’ll know if he performs he’ll play same as everyone else. I think he is the Gundogan replacement and will play a lot.

They could have briefed that he was the Gundo replacement right after he signed, and they didn't. It was briefed yesterday after we whiffed on Rice. I don't think that is a coincidence.

Well as Kovacic is more of an 8 than Rice has ever been use that to judge instead of using what may and may no be a breifing or a journalists guess to make a judgement. Kovacic is by far a better fit to play where Gundogan played than Rice was. The fact it was rumoured Rice arriving would mean Phillips probably going should give you the same conclusion.
