Burnley (A) | Post Match Thread

Vincent trying to be as gracious as possible but you can see how disappointed he is in their fans tonight. He's going to the top. Burnley hopefully will fuck off back to where they belong.

Here's to you Vincent Kompany. City loves you more than you will know.

Ederson 7.5/10 Good distribution. Not much to do between the posts. A few unnecessary passes that puckered the sphincter.

Ake 7/10 Good at the back, decent with his distribution. A bit nervy passing out from the back in the beginning.

Akanji 7.5/10 Good awareness and positioning, solid passing. Another dependable performance from the bargain buy.

Walker 7/10 Few wingers can win a foot race against him. Nothing doing on his flank for Burnley. His forward runs could've ended with better final balls.

Lewis 5.5/10 Not confident in possession. Not able to consistently link play between the defence and midfield. Just needs more experience, has played this role successfully before and will again.

Rodri 8.5/10 The cog that turns the wheel. Best 6 in the world for my money. If he’s the last man defending you feel confident. Excellent insurance goal.

Kovacic 7.5/10 Easy to see why Pep targeted him. Strong on the ball. Reliable passer. Played with excellent industry from box to box. Gonna be a great fit.

Foden 7/10 A bit wasteful at times but directly contributed to 2 goals. Work rate tracking back doesn’t always match Grealish’s.

KDB NR Get healthy, wasn’t worth running him out in this game imo.

Bernardo 6.5/10 Worked hard but was less than sharp with his service.

Alvarez 6.5/10 Set up Haaland’s 2nd but otherwise struggled to make his imprint on the game. Heavy touch cost him goal opportunity.

Haaland 8.5/10 Two clinical finishes and constantly looking to cause havoc for the opposition. Didn’t get involved much beyond the goals.

Palmer 6/10 Worked hard, continuing to show he’s capable of contributing.

Laporte 6/10 Cleaned up well in the final minutes.

Gvardiol 6.5/10 Very energized for his debut. Impressed with his movement and awareness.

Job done lads. We will get sharper as we get used to new teammates.

Standouts for Burnley:

CB Al Dkahil
GK Trafford
RW Koleosho

Haaland back to his lethal best! Games like tonight show why we have been champions so many times under Pep. Not at our best but could have easily stepped it up a level if required. I think a few of the top sides will struggle at Burnley this season so a great win to start our season. Only negative is KDB injury and think we might now speed up our recruitment of a certain West Ham midfielder.

Listen to the audio, it wasn't a clash at all. Haaland was annoyed at Bernie for not putting him in, Pep was telling him to stop sulking it was half time and they were two up and Bernie was just making sure they went in with the lead. Nowt in it, I imagine Pep looks animated when ordering a Chinese.
Yeah I didn’t say a clash - I said an animated discussion - as for ordering a Chinese - big John on Tik Tok takes some beating when you talk about passion

Decent enough performance especially considering Burnley are a few weeks ahead. Thought Trafford grew into the game and couldn't really fault him for any of the goals. Looks decent enough with his feet although Burnley were overplaying it a bit at the back at times.

At times in the first half we were a bit sloppy and without Stones in there the passing from the defenders was very safe. Lewis in the first half was finding good little pockets but not getting the ball anything like fast enough. Walker and Akanji were not great and caused themselves some problems.

Alvarez and Foden played much better when Haaland went off and it seemed pretty clear they are still working on how we will play particularly after KdB went off. Still a work in progress.

Probably guilty of wanting to over praise someone but Josko looked at home. Much tougher tests for him to come obviously but he looks like he fits

As if Vinny has just had to try and talk about/defend Burnley fans booing the taking of the knee and it’s a slight positive as it’s less fans booing than it used to be. What a shitty little club of inbreds Burnley really are.

Poor Vinny.

So proud of Vinny. Bring our boy home in due course. There is clearly an element of racists in Burnley that booed the taking of the knee. Vinny answered his questions perfectly but he knows he’s coming home eventually, where skin colour, religion, sexuality etc matter not.
Regardless, he’s a blue, we love him, he loves us and he knows where his true home is. Once a blue, always a blue.

Comfortable in the end at what could have been a tricky fixture, mainly down to Haaland's clinical finishing.
Still understandably a bit rusty but lots of great signs we'll be there or thereabouts again.
The Burnley crowd still have a lot of utter neanderthals.
