Maybe someone at either the FA or Premier League leaked something, as it would’ve become a whole lot messier if the deal had actually gone through. Feels like this came as a bit of a surprise to all parties. Doubt negotiations would’ve got this far if either side knew.

Its not like its just a big coincidence this came out now. These news most likely came out as a result of our due diligence, so it would have come out before we signed him regardless if they had accepted that 70m bid or not :) With other words, there is no chance we would have signed him whatever fee they wanted.

However, making sure a potential signing is not being currently investigated for a crime before making a multimillion investment is not what makes him an elite Sporting Director, that in particular is the the bare minimum I would expect from anyone in his position.
