The Rashford/Fernandez goal only equates if Akanji boots it in the net and the ref gives it.

Being in an offside position isn't offside unless he interferes with the play.

Does he obstruct the keeper from getting the ball, no? Does he stop the dive, no? Does he prevent the keeper seeing it, no?
Goal then.
The keeper clearly flinches though, at the point Akanji was moving, and it lost the keeper a couple of cms in reach. I thought ti was offside anyway,.

Similar to the Rashford offside. Akanji attempting to flick the ball means their keeper doesn’t know where to dive, same as Ederson at OT.

Ah well, take it and move on!

I think the key difference is that in that instance, Rashford clearly made a consistent movement towards the ball, whereas Akanji is explicitly trying to get out of the way of it.

I don't actually think whether a keeper is distracted comes into the decision at all. The decision is made on the basis of the attacking player's actions.

I'd still be fuming if it was given against us, no doubt.

They were all at it, that half. Sloppy passing and in some cases very poor decision making. I’m looking at you Alvarez.
But I think we have it within us to hammer these.
Foden looks like he could destroy them on his own. Put him behind Haaland where he’ll hurt them most.
Not impressed with Akanji at all. Prefer Ake as a defender, him and Gvardiol outside him would be much better.

I wouldn’t even call it rustiness this week. Just has a look of a mixture of too many personnel changes and players bedding in, players out of position etc.

I think a couple of very mild tweaks and Fulham won’t cope nearly as well.

I think I’d make a few changes to get Phil in the middle more. He’s not ideal there but I think put Walker high and wide again like recent matches, allowing Phil to be in the centre and also meaning Akanji is part of the back 3 and not a midfield imposter. Then get Bernardo on for Alvarez.
Think he’s actually done the Walker switch. When we had possession then, Walker was level with Haaland and Akanji is now RCB and not in midfield. And Phil now more central in possession as a result. You can call me Juanma.

Nope. What prevents him from getting to the header is that he takes a step rather than diving. At that point, the ball hasn't even reached Akanji. How could he tell he was 'attempting' to flick it? Which I really don't think he was.

Under the current rules it's actually a goalkeeping mistake, the keeper is ball watching and not aware that Akanji is in an offside position and not allowed to touch the ball.
