Player that everybody loves but you think is overrated

Bernardo silva.

What does he do?

Don’t assist and don’t score.

Spends too much time drinking coffee and winding up the dippers.

Right. Bear with me. Ronaldinho.

Made me fall in love with the game (alongside the real Ronaldo) while watching 2002 World Cup. But the way he's spoken about is as if he'd done it consistently over his career whereas he was forced out of PSG, had 3/4 good years at Barcelona then was forced out of there too.

Christ, he was linked to us (agent interviews in the media and everything) only 2/3 years after winning the Ballon D'Or before moving to Milan.

At his peak, a beautiful footballer but his peak was too short and the rest is a bit sad really. Wasted talent.

Yep, Rashford. Shockingly one dimensional. Keep a man back near him and he is less than useless.
I think he can run fast and can hit the ball hard and that’s why folk rate him. That’s about it. When Mourinho was manger of Utd and Rashford wasn’t getting a smell in, if Guardiola would have made a sly bid for him, Mourinho and the Glazers would have accepted and Rashford would have improved and been a better player.

Going back a bit, I never understood why the late Ray Wilkins got 84 England caps.
Apparently he was a decent bloke but I never saw him as more than an unspectacular and Ok player.
unspectacular and ok player, perfect for england then

I once read an article about Ray Wilkins. It went something like this. Representatives from AC Milan went to OT to look at Bryan Robson as journalists from all over Europe were raving about him so they flew over to watch him in a match. They went away from that match and a couple of months later signed Ray Wilkins. In other words, he was the one that impressed them. I think the thing is, he was one of those players who got on with what he was doing, didn’t kick up a big fuss, Gareth Barry type.

Your not far wrong there, he was a prime example of the Brazilian footballers mentality back then, easily the best when they were interested but shite when they couldn't be arsed, see messers Robinho and Elano for further reflection.
Takes me back Ronaldinho tho, I remember the transfer thread got to about 200 pages, big news at the time, nowadays a reported interest in a Bolivian u18s wingback reaches 200 pages within a couple of hours

I was buzzing at the idea of getting him. Like when Ronaldo (R9) was linked to us around that time too. Summer of 2008.

I've just had a look for old articles about the links - Ronaldinho was 28 and Ronaldo 31. Prime example of how quick their careers went down the shitter. Both entering/into their primes yet being flirted about clubs that should've been well below them quality-wise. (It was pre-Sheikh!)

Salah. Not as well known before lfc. He's just a £30m player without them. The lfc and utd media elevate their players to higher levels than any other team;
Rashford is on a par with Mbappe?
Bruno = KDB.
De Gae - Best goalie in the world.
TAA best midfielder, nay defender, nay wherever he will play he will be the BEST.

Its all bollocks. And so it is with Salah. Klopp made him good, SA would be paying £170m for shirt sales if they paid £200m for him.

Some left field choices:

Ramsdale - As long as he is goal, Arsenal are winning nothing big. Seriously lacks the primary character of a top goalkeeper - calmness
Rudiger - Plays football like a lunatic stuck in a glass maze. Doesn't have any qualities of a top center half.
Joe Gomez - Can't fathom how much he was hyped up once upon a time. Eli Mangala has better games for City than this guy has for the dippers.
Callum Hudson Odoi - This guy was linked with BAYERN for two windows!! Was constantly mentioned as one of the best young players in England but has been absolute dogshit for every club he has played. Is he still at the circus club??
Entire Rags Team - Can't see anything special about any of them! Stealing a living all of them!

He was the Jordan Henderson or Declan Rice, of his day. Steady but not spectacular. For some reason England football managers love these sort of players which might explain why we always seem to produce dull international teams.

As Tommy Docherty said of him: “He can’t run, he can’t tackle and he can’t head the ball. The only time he goes forward is for the toss.”

Messi. He's only ever played with great players around him. Unless he proves himself by doing it with Radcliffe Borough his trophies will always be meaningless.

Well, that's what they say about Pep as a manager, so it must be true. And fair.

He is in the MLS which is a bit like playing Sunday league to be fair.

Have you seen his interview where he’s says he never felt he was out played or dominated by Scholes Gerrard or the like?
Lol, I never see that. That may have been the case in his eyes over a few games with them but over the course of a season he knows better, or maybe he doesn't!!

I hate to say it, but.... Balotelli. Yes, I know.
I agree with that.

Two apparent City "legends" that did not deserve it in my eyes, of course just my opinion. Balotelli and van Buyten.

Balotelli - at risk of engaging in a "what have the romans done for us debate" OK he made the pass for Aguero, without which THAT wouldnt have happened. Fair Cop.
However the only other "great games" he had was in the FA Cup Semi v United and Final v Stoke. I would venture he wasnt great in either. He just didnt get sent off, when everyone was expecting him to. I cant give legend status to some loon just because he didnt get sent off. And frankly his petulant antics were just embarrassing.

The other "legend" which riles me is Daniel van Buyten.
Played 5 games for us, of which we won one (granted it was v United) and he got sent off in one of them.
Kept one clean sheet with him in the team, against a shot shy Birmingham City.
Anyone would think he was as good and as part of the furniture at City as Dave Watson the love he gets on here.

I agree on Balotelli, way overrated.
