Muffin or Barm

Think I use both terms actually but never “chip barm”. Just sounds wrong.
I think I already mentioned this years ago on this thread; from the late 70s through to the mid 80s, someone had graffitied ‘chip barm’ in yellow paint on the brick wall of the real Old Trafford, by the Warwick Road entrance. It never failed to amuse me and my dad when we went to the cricket. It disappeared when the ground was redeveloped and that wall came down.

It’s called a batch over here. I remember mishearing a colleague and constantly asking for a bap as not to avoid confusion.

You have to wonder if other cities are this divided. I myself would say barm for Manchester.

They said the debate was finished, it’s not mentioned anymore.
But barms rule the city like they’ve always done before.
Oh barmy army, the one and only, it’s a barm.

It’s a barm for me, but when in enemy territory, I will change it to muffin or tea cake etc, followed by some little joke about it being a barm really, but that I’m trying to adapt to your culture.
