Middle East Conflict | Netanyahu orders strikes on Gaza (p1161)

It’s such a tragic situation for all the parties involved, I do blame the Americans for taking their eyes off the situation, believing it could be managed by hi tech fences and increased brutality, they looked the other way and they are now caught between a rock and a hard place, they know their reputation has been damaged, they know this just gives Iran more influence in the region

What’s needed is cool pragmatic heads there are over 2 million people in Gaza, with the sanitation system broken there could be an outbreak of cholera, on top of all the destruction

It's just a matter of time.

That’s why I am convinced that pretty soon the Americans will call a halt, the blow back for them will be terrible plus it’s only strengthening Iran

I haven't see anyone in the west with any gravitas talk publicly about the real risk of a deadly contagion. Have you? In any-case Netanyahu has made it perfectly clear today he is not for turning.

He’s a snake, he will turn when he’s told to, the Americans can and won’t allow this to go on, they can’t afford to, it’s simple geopolitical reality, not only Iran but China is also vying for influence in the region, and they can pump lots of money and arms into the region

Some climb down presented as victory will happen, the alternative would be quite horrific

I’ve given up replying to what has been spewed out in here recently, but this is probably in reply to more reasonable conversations I had earlier.

There are plenty of Jewish people of different descriptions that do not agree with Zionism. They are not all rabbis of some cult or other, if any are at all.
Anti-Israel comments can be, but are not as a rule, anti-Semitic.

This guy is worth listening to until the end. He’s Jewish, his grandparents died in Aushwitz, he himself was a holocaust survivor as a baby.
There are a number of other sources recommended at the end of this.
I have listened to Ilan Pappe and will check out the journalist he mentions in the West Bank.

Only a matter of time till.it happens in the UK. Hate is now permitted by the UK state - ..especially anti-semetism. It's already starting to happen on UK university campuses. 59 incidents of extremism against Jewish students so far since the Hamas terrorist attack

Mate they'd let rapists and murderers out to jail people for hate crime in this country, if there ever was a need to protect a minority from being chased and terrorised in this country I would advocate extreme violence against those perpetrating the violence.

I can feel the rise of hatred towards Jews and people are emboldened.

Missed this earlier.

He was fired for comments that are "not consistent with the principles of collective responsibility," a Number 10 spokesperson said.

IMO he was fired for comments that are "not consistent with the principles of collective punishment." Insert Humphrey Appleby gif here >

You see how these things work?

What would you do to the settlers?

The way it works in THIS country not abroad, foreigners can sort their own shit out in their own countries.

We in this country should strengthen the sentences for anti-Semitism to prevent the simmering under the surface bigots that see this as a chance.

The Israeli leader and Hamas are deadly enemies — and allies in opposing a 2-state solution.

From the article, the following caption under a picture of Itamar Ben Gvir.

[A youthful Ben Gvir shows off a Cadillac hood ornament he claimed to have taken from Yitzhak Rabin's car shortly before the Israeli peacemaker was assassinated. Convicted of terrorism charges, Ben Gvir is today Israel's minister of national security.]

"From the Russian side, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we received a list of citizens who have dual citizenship," Marzouk said. "We are very attentive to this list and will process it carefully, because we look at Russia as our closest friend," he said, according to RIA.

Hamas delenda est

No. I think you can render Hamas or any terror organization practically ineffective. It's like someone with HIV who has taken drugs to suppress the virus into remission. So much so that you can't even detect the HIV in blood samples.

That, you haven't gotten rid of the virus entirely is wholely irrelevant. What's relevant is that it's practically ineffective. And that is achievable with a serious attack.

Terrorist are not superhuman or special. Let's stop ascribing nonhuman qualities to them.

I agree with you on targeted assassination in Qatar. But like I said, a multifaceted approach is best and most effective.

:) Kudus for your analogies, but I am still not buying that you can blast Hamas out of existence. You can buy some time before they re-group, or worse, something far worse rises from the ashes, but that is no actual solution.

I am just listening to the BBC and the reporter said that in previous conflicts the number of deaths reported by the Gaza health authority have proven to be accurate, when independently audited afterwards. There are also at least a 1,000 people missing. It’s all very sad.

There was gruesome news yesterday about the murder of the German woman kidnapped from the rave. On a brighter note a kidnapped soldier has been saved.

Why don’t the posters who tell us that the U.K. turns a blind eye to anti-semitism mention the increase in Islamophobia. Until you do it’s very difficult for me to believe you are anti racist campaigners you seem to think you are. We live in a Country where families going on peace marches are labelled hate campaigners by our Home Secretary. Where the leaders of our 2 main political parties find it impossible to empathise with the 8,000 plus Gazans who’ve been killed so far.

Hamas and the Israeli Government are responsible for this. If you can’t see that it’s about time you stopped calling everyone whose views you disagree with racists. But of course the Gazans are “collateral damage”.
