The Akanji goal was a great example of why short corner routines are a thing. Initially, every aerial threat is being man-handled/blocked, then when the ball gets played short all the Chelsea blockers stop blocking and step up, leaving Akanji free. It’s so simple but it really does show why just whipping the ball into the mixer is not always the best decision. Teams are far more prepared for a standard whipped in corner than they are for a short one, as there’s more variety in terms of what you can do with them.

I think some fans need to accept if we’re going to keep Alvarez long term alongside Haaland then it’s going to involve playing them together even in some games when it’s not perfect.

Not sure anyone is suggesting he not get picked, just that today, he’s not been at his best and we need another body in midfield to nullify their press and build up.

Same with Doku. No one wants him sold, it just might be better with more control in this type of game.
