The Conservative Party

Pretty sure there will be some kind of tax cut somewhere but more will come in March. Doubt they will make much difference either to peoples pockets or their poll ratings though.
Make big cuts that will benefit the wealthiest and leave a massive headache and legacy for the next administration.... like they really give a fuck anyway. They certainly won't be around to clear up the mess.

Laura Trott looks like a Home Counties gel who is looking for a horse - if its the will of the people why not ask us in a GE?

Turns out that disabled and sick people are sat at home idle because they are getting £5k pa in benefits more than they need when many are on NHS waiting lists that have grown under this Govt from just under 2m when they assumed office to 8m now - if you think really hard about it the sanity of that becomes clear

Get with the programme man……
Sickness and being on a waiting list is a lifestyle choice.

Maybe if these twats hadn't reduced real wages by such a huge amount over the last 13 years there would be a greater incentive for sick and disabled people to overcome the obstacles to get work, rather than trying to make them feel guilty or that is their "duty".

It always raises my hackles when people use that word about others - it means they want them to do something that is not in their best interests for the benefit of the person saying that.

And if the Tories had done their duty to represent the whole nation rather than just their most extreme right wing think tank and Brexit nut jobs perhaps we wouldn't be in the mess we are.

Big business are subsidised by the taxpayer to allow them to pay low wages that are topped up with Universal Credit.

Junior doctors paid £14/hour when the National Minimum Wage is £10.42 illustrates just how much they have condensed pay rates and how little reward their is for skills and training or opportunity to make a decent living for most people.

And yet the fuckers who spend their time and energy trying to do down the majority of the country to profit themselves and their mates have the brass neck to lecture everyone else on their so-called duties.

100+ years these would be the same C*nts that would be sending everyone else off to the trenches while they stayed at home to profit from the War. Nye Bevin had it right when he described the Tory Party as "Organised Spivvery"

Real wages have tumbled over the last decade or so. This means that many, many people in employment are struggling to make ends meet, and also that many need Universal Credit to subsidise their wages - or, really, their employers. Successive governments, while not admitting it, have encouraged the development of a low-wage economy.

In part, at least, this is due to a long-term failure to address low productivity, which in turn is largely due to a failure to invest adequately. It is not, contrary, to the Daily Mail, the case that this is principally due to lazy workers. Piss poor educational standards add to the problem.

In consequence, there is not a massive gap between low-paid working and being on benefits for many people, especially those with kids and living in rented accommodation. This does not mean benefits are too high - they are practically at starvation level - it means that real wages are way too low. A major issue is the cost of housing is far too high. It is at a totally unrealistic level compared to wages and the problem is a deliberate constriction of supply. caused by, among other things, land banking and a shortage of relevant skills.

This situation is not easily resolved. Knocking 1p off income tax or adding £300 to the personal allowance certainly will not solve it, that's for sure.

Leaving the EU, while not the sole issue, certainly has not helped with this. We are a country that lives on trade, and we have made trading with our largest and nearest market far more difficult. It isn't rocket science.

Unlike a politician, I am not going to offer an easy solution. There isn't one. It needs at least of decade of hard work to start to improve things and there are about 100 levers that need pulling. The reality, like it or not, is that far from cutting taxes, we probably need to increase them in the short term. It may be possible to cut them when (if) the country becomes genuinely prosperous again. This can only be done via trade with external partners, not by taking in each other's washing.

This is nothing to do with "helping the people" indeed I am not sure if it is even anything to do with poll ratings at this stage either, merely trying to prevent the even further far right from launching a leadership challenge that would ensure that the Tories are not even the official party of opposition after the GE and would put the entire life of the party at risk.

100%, and thank you for putting it without resorting to swearing like I failed to do!

The tax increase needs to be on those corporations and individuals who are doing best out the current situation, but we know it won't be.

They are now floating the idea of getting rid of Inheritance Tax - to help the most wealthy 4% of people who actually have to pay it!

If you look at who was behind Brexit it was people who didn't want a pan-European tax regime that mightstop companies like Apple, Amazon, Costa Coffee arranging their affairs to avoid paying any UK or European tax, despite making huge profits out of their activities there.

If there is an increase in tax you can bet, like every financial difficulty faced by the country, it will be the people who do the work that get to pay. Austerity, Inflation, Deficit - all down to us to pay it while the spivs move their money offshore or employ expensive accountants to set up trust or whatever is the latest scheme.

I really can't stand Priti Patel. She has to be the most smug, snidey, self satisfied female politician I have ever seen. Ever.

And taking into account Thatcher, McVey, Braverman, Currie, Truss and some other gits that's saying something.
