Thanksgiving

First off to our American brethren, Happy Thanksgiving for tomorrow!

Ive been invited to a Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow as my brothers missus is from the U.S of A and she has family over.
Im just wondering what to expect? Is it just a Christmas Dinner? Do you deep fry your turkey like a giant KFC wing? Do I need to avoid food for the next 24 hours to prepare for it? Ive heard rumours of something called creamed corn which isn't filling me full of excitement I will admit and I think I've heard somewhere that you have pumpkin pie which sounds horrible.
Just like Xmas dinner except there isn't a King's Speech or crackers.

Sweet potato pie is usually on the menu, which is a mix of sweet potatoes and marshmallows. It's not too bad once you get used to it. Pumpkin pie is gorgeous, as is cornbread.

Good call. We use coarse brown sugar and pecans and lots of butter & vanilla. Never tried it with marshmallow. We always have a pecan pie as well, and cornbread.

4th July is celebrating the day they kicked the Brits out.
Thanksgiving is the day for celebrating when they exploited the native Americans by having them show how to grow crops and survive the cold northeast weather, before killing them all in mass genocide

I'm just thinking that wouldn't it be nice if the Americans celebrated 1812 on our behalf as well?

:-O

Didn’t know where to put this but a car has exploded on the rainbow bridge (Niagara Falls) and they have closed all the bridges down and closed buffalo airport. No idea if it was an accident or what but there are two people dead.

I make a lot of sweet potato pies throught the year, it's one of my faves. Never seen the pie with marshmallows, they're usually on sweet potato casserole. Maybe that's a regional thing.

Turnip gets sweet when you roast them, you might be onto something
Sounds like it needs lemon, not candy floss…

I recognise that sweet potato, like pumpkin and marrow etc, needs flavour adding. They’re not the most flavourful veggies out there.

However, adding straight sugar seems utterly horrible to me.

I don’t enjoy sweet flavours in main courses though, so that is probably why I shall remain obstinate in my believe that Americans are dirty bastards. ;-)

Having grown up in England I too don’t like sweet things in the main course. I am still a dirty bastard though

I always do roast spuds, Brussels, greens, more like an English Christmas dinner for me
A traditionalist. Unless you pour that white sweet “gravy” over it. ;-)

Ultimately, you guys cook what you want to eat and good luck to you.

Unless you want a reaction video from me whacking on YouTube, don’t ask me to eat marshmallow in a pie!

Hope you have a good day anyway.
