'.. Bare-boned and covered in red,
waiting on that evening flood.
And I came on a ship on fire,
to the seas you call your home..'
Ship on Fire - Zeal and Ardor
Now for something a little different, that involves a little bit of an open mind.
Won't be for everyone, but with so many songs there, no harm in offering it up for exploration/discussion.
'Afro Djent' is not that common a crossover genre. I've seen it also called 'Grindcore Gospel', which to me is more fitting, because while their songs clearly deal with stories of slavery and race, musically they are more US gospel than anything African. They themselves are Swiss btw.
And it is that gospel/roots side of it that makes it compelling, rather than the metal which is fairly standard.
A band that I really like, in small doses, quite hit and miss but some of the hits are really good. If looking further Church Burns, Firewake, and Gravediggers' Chant are worthwhile songs. The album this song is off, Stranger Fruit (yes a reference to that song we had on a playlist here, which I wouldn't have known otherwise) is an intriguing listen as a whole, when looking for something new.
