Late night Cafe/Curry place back in the day?

Not Abduls but in Alex Park/Whalley Range/Moss side in late 70's early '80s. Mrs L thinks it was called Charlies, I disagree as per...
Was always in a state but have a hazy memory of being able to buy a can of beer -hidden from view - after the clubs were shut.

there was a place near what was the old harp brewery not far from maine road,east african and the best curry i have ever tasted, half rice half chips with chicken on the bone, back in the day it was known as the black mans

I know the one you mean, opposite the Shell garage and was open till 2am.
Wasn't called Yips tho, I forget the name.
Yips is the one on Hardman Lane opposite the station, and is still there..!
It was run by Joe Yip who is now in his 80's and retired, his son Steve now runs it.
I've known them all my life and still go in.

There was a few on oldham rd. I always thought it was Yips. On the right going towards Hollinwood. Past the pole. Stephen was definitely the son’s name. Pretty sure he was a year older than me. Would be around 61 ish now.

Think that's a different one then, I thought you meant the one opposite the shell garage, few doors from the Midland bank, I expect Yip is a common name..!
The one on Hardman lane is definitely owned by a Steve Yip, and has been there since early 70's.
Where did you live in Fw..? I grew up on Mather St, which is where I first knew Barry Foy from.
 
Bobs Burger van on Victoria bridge or if you'd copped and she was worth it, The Shah restaurant just a bit further up.

Might have got my names mixed up mate.
only ever went down that way to see our friends that were on Hale lane ( I think that was the street)

I remember one on Hathersage Rd I think ,nr the hospital. Full chicken in a dish with madras poured over it. I asked to take it away and he put the curry in a sterilised milk bottle.there was 2 toilets as well. One for lads the other for students. Lino on floors as well. Early 80s
 
The Pubali in Prestwich village was the go to place in the late 70's. Usually after a few light refreshments in Philips Park Hall.
