And tracing it back further, Charles HughesIn two words; Howard Wilkinson.
"Four months after leaving Leeds, in January 1997, Wilkinson was hired by the sport's governing body in England, the Football Association, to act as its Technical Director, overseeing coaching and other training programmes at all levels of the game. Whilst at Leeds, Wilkinson had developed a ten-year plan to create an "English La Masia" at Thorp Arch.[7] In his role with the FA, Wilkinson applied this blueprint on a larger scale to the national game, developing the academy system and persuading the FA to begin the National Football Centre project. Wilkinson based the plans for the National Football Centre on the French system at Clairefontaine which nurtured the 1998 World Cup and 2000 European Championship winners. In 1997 Wilkinson published the Charter for Quality which was the basis for which all English academies were to train future stars"
Not only was the football his teams played extremely dour but he was the buffoon who sold Cantona to united for £1m.

A large part is because the Premier League is the best league with the most money. It's honestly weird... Howe is the only decent one currently who is getting results AND playing nice football.
The league (PL) is being taken over by Spaniards. Spaniards, Italians and Germans all produce excellent managers. English produce nothing.
City played great football under Mancini. We will soon. They are currently graduating from Pep University.
The whole of English football was kick and rush until 2015.
We did. That team would lose to Pep’s football 8 or 9 times out of 10 though.City played great football under Mancini.
The 6-1 is still some of the best football I have seen a City side produce. Imagine Pep in charge of that set of players in their prime. We did. That team would lose to Pep’s football 8 or 9 times out of 10 though.
Pep’s tactics are better than anyone before him. He can be beaten with pace and power, as Klopp demonstrates, but he comes out on too far more often than not.

Yeah, maybe, but it was at the core of most managers’ ethos.Bit of an exaggeration there.
Triffic footballGerr it forward!
Boot it out to clear the corner!
Lump that throw-in into the 6-yard box for a jammy header!
Smash a tackle into your man to get the home crowd riled up!
Enough said.
Didnt redknapp win a cup with portsmouthLiam Rosenior is becoming quite interesting at Hull City. He’s building a decent young team that plays good football and are pinching above their weight. Potter was doing well at Brighton and Howe had a really good start at Newcastle. The last English managers to win the major prizes though were Howard Wilkinson with the league at Leeds and Joe Royle with the cup at Everton. That’s truly shocking.
Well shit my mouth. I forgot about that and was reading Joe Royle’s autobiography recently. Blame him.Didnt redknapp win a cup with portsmouth
The thread title is clear; English. There's been the odd half decent sweaty manager. That hasn't been questioned.Moyes (British) is the best Hammers Manager in my life time.
If he had a fancy foreign name he’d be getting so much more praise and adulation.
Spot on...prime example was Rooney replacing Eustace. I didnt follow it properly, but i seem to remember people and birmingham fans questioning the decision. And hasnt the granny shagger made birmingham worse since he arrivedNationality is irrelevant, there's been toss managers from across the globe.
What I will say is, giving retired players management roles on the ground they were a great player isn't helping (Gerrard, Granny Shagger, Lampard).
Is poch doing a better job than Potter even with an improved squad to last year?
