Spurs (A) | FA Cup | Post Match Thread

Following winning the match any news yet on the bus parade namely the date, time and route?
It was last night mate. Went from Piccadilly Gardens to Oxford Road and back again stopping outside Wetherspoons. Every fucker was on Strikabombs. Was immense. Highlights should be on City+ later.

Cough cough
That's the problem though, VAR was sold to most fans that it would cut out the howlers & if anything VAR has made the offside rule worse. Before VAR, very few fans would even know about the many goals chalked off for being a shoe-size offside.
For a long time, I've seen offside as anti football especially the George Graham Arsenal team that would shrink the pitch by 30 yards

Advantage rule?

The only "advantage to the attack" rule was an instruction to the assistant not to flag unless sure the player was offside. Still applies without VAR. So far as I know, it's still the instruction with VAR, and the AR got it right last night. (Whether he would have been so sure without VAR is almost a psychological question.)

Anyway, here's why we wanted VAR... (Kyle Walker a yard offside for Spurs v City, 2015, not given)

Shouldn’t need VAR in a situation like that, just a linesman that does need a visit to the optician.

That never was the rule, just some pundit's pre-VAR idea, and no easier for the assistant referee to get right. The only change in over 100 years was that level was onside rather than offside (and making clear that hands and arms don't count).

True it wasn’t a rule but was there some kind of guidance at some point? The point is the margins are too fine to measure at the moment in many cases and it is producing ridiculous decisions.

If you go back to first principles, the offside rule was introduced to prevent goal hanging; it was never meant to be about fractional decisions and it shouldn’t be now.

Don’t know whether it has been discussed on here but it looks as though it was on its way in anyway and if he hadn’t touched it it would have been a goal. Could be wrong though?
I've just watched the replay on City+ and that was what struck me. I am convinced it would have crossed the line if young Oscar had not touched it.

Quick question : i was working during the match... When KDB came on as sub did he fall into a false 9 or centre forward?

Just looked at the line ups there, was wondering about the formation when Julien came off. Cheers.

Quite possibly but it’s the player’s instinct to get the ball over the line in the heat of the moment. Especially if he believes he’s onside.
Yes I'm certainly not criticising young Oscar who showed admirable instincts and reactions. I remember an incident at Anfield when "Trent" clearly handled the ball and Sergio joined in an appeal when it seemed easier to stick the ball in the onion bag! Needless to say we didn't get the penalty, Liverpool went up the other end and scored. Oscar wasn't taking any chances.

fair enough you saw more than rest of us, Rodders is the best on earth in his position, but probably because of how consistent and exceptional Fernandinho was in that role and Rodders slow transition into his role i saw the quality but because physically he’s a different build to Fern and initially appeared slower than the great man i was a slight bit sceptical wether he’d take that role as he later did, basically after that i made a conscious decision to just simply say if Pep believes it then i’m onboard, that’s me default setting now, i mean arguably coulda just had that opinion from the get go considering Peps’s the greatest manager there’s been, like most of us we know our football and we know our club but why second guess the greatest?
I remember some of our fans saying 'Rodri's too slow - players just run past him'. I didn't see it like that - I saw a player with metronomic passing accuracy, strong in the tackle and able to drop back like an extra CB. To me, he improved from what was a good start. The personality has a lot to do with it - a dominant character and likewise Dias - you don't often see that confidence from a player that age. Some fans are making knee-jerk comments about Gvardiol. Gvardiol is a Rolls Royce of a player - and still incredibly young with years of improvement left.

Kev played on the right of Foden who played a false 9. Sometimes he played on the right, others he dropped into midfield as a No 10.

We're so fluid, it's difficult to pigeon hole players into specific positions.
