Manchester City
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola: "They’re such a difficult team. This season we lost six points [against Brentford]. They have the ability with Ivan Toney – he’s a master player, a really good player. Other than that they’re really good at free-kicks, throw-ins and so on.
"We had a lot of chances considering how difficult it is to play against them, and we’ve won our game in hand. The performance was really good, once again, and I’m happy for the result.
"I think we had less chances in the second half than in the first. We struggled a little bit in the second half."
"The players, for years, have done incredible things, and they’re still doing it."
On Erling Haaland: "He’s been injured a long time. He’s always a threat in these situations. We need these types of players."

Phew,

tough watch,

need to move the ball quicker to get in behind,

need to put those chances away more often

being 2-3 up at 70mins instead of chasing a winner would allow subs and rest for players.

A wins good and we can still improve so we are still in there fighting.

The big issue for me is the officiating, including time keeping, its too manipulable.

Im sure that "small gains" guy that the rags have signed has submitted his "ideas" to pigmol.

Ref was way too eager to give the opposition free kicks while we get our first one at FIFTY SIX minutes, must be some kind of record, and with us having 71% possession at that point!!!!

Definitely bent, then we get two in quick succession as if someone had told the ref its too obvious?

Also he kept having a word with that guy who kept pulling Haaland down at corners, in the end he should have let the corner be taken and give the pen.

Ref looked more like a farmer than a ref too, and officiated like one.

If we're watching a rival play like that, we're saying they're nothing to fear, they'll slip up plenty playing like that etc.

Points are what matter of course and If we win every game until the end of the season like that, I'll take it, but we won't.

We won't beat any of the top sides we've got coming up in this kind of form. We look completely devoid of ideas when we get in the final third, I couldn't tell you what our plan of attack is anymore and are wide open on counters. Lots of work to be done if we want to keep our title and make more history.
Completely agree.

The finishing for me is what’s stinking the place out just now though. 24 shots, 11 of which on target, and only 1 goal. Seriously poor.

Another hard, ground out win. I hope this league doesn't go down to GD, if we are still in the mix. We are not clinical enough to smash 4 or 5 past teams anymore. Another 3 or 4 goals tomorrow no doubt for the scousers as well!!!

Seriously think Pep needs to re think the Alvarez situation. He's a genius, but we all can see it just isn't happening for him and the team at the minute.

He needs to sit a few games out and come on from the bench.

Another brutal set of fixtures coming up as well.

I agree to some extent but when 2 teams between them play 22 players behind the ball for 90% of the games then I`m not surprised we have difficulty in scoring.
Having said that mate too often we try and walk the ball in, instead of having a pop from within striking distance.
And that in itself becomes even tricker when you are trying to shoot through a penalty box full of bodies - though I suppose deflections can work for you.

Hard to disagree on paper, other than us probably being the only side in the league that could keep playing like this and still manage to win games.

We've a fair bit of work to do going into March, as well have to be clinical in most of those games.

At the moment we seem better away from home, so won't be surprised to see us beat Bournemouth comfortably.

We need to start winning games at home in our normal manner, as it feels like a nervy stadium at the moment.

Take Alvarez out the middle and you'll see the team playing like the first 30mins against Copenhagen.

If not we'll keep seeing the same turgid and slow football, he offers nothing central.
There must be a set number of minutes he has to play in his new contract, its unexplainable.
