Too many vehicles on uk roads

Nothing will be done until you literally can’t get your car out of the street and it all ends up being one permanent traffic jam. Cars parked anywhere and everywhere blocking pavements. Multi car ownership per household. Work vans brought home adding to the carnage. It’s a big problem in towns anyway. But something does need to be done.

Its the public that put me off going on the public transport

You can get lumbered with some **** who wants to talk to you
Doesn't happen much now.

I'm fed of of arguing with selfish cunts who decide they are going to put their cases/Phone charges/Guitars on all the seats around them to have a table to themselves on trains i work.

You can see the fear in some when someone has the audacity to sit next to them.

As a passenger if I need to sit down I will always ask someone to move so I can sit down, the slyest trick is sitting in the aisle seat whilst the window seat is free, it's a big fuck you.

I make announcements reminding people they can be charged for having luggage on seats and not being afraid of sitting next to a total stranger.

Its not necessarily the talking that puts me off more the hygiene levels of many in society these days. I know the country is rapidly progressing back to the Victorian era but theres no need for the accompanying aromatics.

Public transport is deliberately kept shit and expensive as the people who make decisions don't use it, but are driven around in chauffeured limousines with police escorts. Petrol duty has not been raised now for some years. If only we could say the same of train fares!
Yep, you can always tell when a city has been designed by people who've never walked anywhere in their lives. I'm in Kuala Lumpur, and it has fantastic trains, but walking outside of the City centre can be a nightmare. Pavements just stopping, uncrossable highways just appearing out of nowhere. No bus lanes, so buses take longer than a car at rush hour. And people drive their car even when a train is demonstrably faster. They put park and ride at loads of stations on the outskirts of the city, and yet still people drive in because they might have to walk 5 minutes from the station in the sun.

And I've done it myself. Once you have a car, you feel like you need to use it for everything. I rented a car for a day for a little road trip. When we got home, we needed to go to the supermarket, so we drove. The supermarket is four stops on the train from our house, which is a 5 minute walk away, but we decided to sit in traffic instead, because we'd paid for the car. The parking was more expensive than the train too.

I'm personally of the opinion that police escorts should be made illegal for anyone running the country. If you're in charge of sorting out traffic, you should have to sit in it. While we're at it, private anything should be against the rules for the government. If you're doing a good job with education, send your own kids. If the NHS is so good, use it, and wait like the rest of us.

All major roads are now 1 lanes. After rush hour it ain't that bad. . Unless 5here is an accident motorways flow OK after rush hour. I remember traffic into town with 2 lanes in the late 80s was horrific

My job is largely tied to the manufacturing and transportation sectors, so I have access to expert analysis and forecast info for things like this and that’s what all the sources are indicating. Of course, things could change with another pandemic, more war, alien invasion etc.
What if it's a war against highly infectious aliens?

Not true. We could implement a one child policy and bring down total population, but yes future high quality public transport is really key.
I think we need a no child policy for two generations.

Too many vehicles caused by too many people, it's as simple as that.

And yet still our leaders seem hell bent on increasing the nation's population on a scale and level never before seen.

More people, more need for goods and services, more GDP, more tax revenues!

Now, you just have to find them all jobs and keep them out of the hospitals and you’re onto something!!

I'm still waiting for the jet-powered hover boots we were promised when I was a schoolboy!
Then again, we were also assured that computers would give us all more leisure time.

The UK rate of population growth is actually slowing down, peaked in 2012. Looks like a maximum 4M more (72M population, currently just under 68M) then it starts to decrease.

Even if that did work in practice, which it demonstrably doesn't work in reality... what is the ultimate end point to this fallacy of never ending economic growth achieved by never ending population growth?
