Poverty in UK

Society doesn't care about the weak
They whine endlessly about "scroungers"
And use them as scapegoats for every last problem

So perhaps they'd like us all to disappear.
Then they can have everything to themselves as they apparently desire.
I'm not joking or fishing for sympathy I'm 100% serious

They do nothing AT ALL to make life tolerable for the 'less fortunate'.
They make no secret of their contempt for us.

The biggest change should be the stopping of punching down. Anyone can find themselves there at any point.

Last weekend i was down on the lyn peninsular, staying in a village known as Cheshire by the Sea on a prestige holiday park where beach front chalets sell, and sell quick for £1.1m. I might add that i got a freebie off a customer in return for doing some maintenance whilst there.

I saw numerous situations, but one in particular, that does make me question the system.
I saw a chalet that i know to have cost £500k. The owner had a £250k speed boat, 2 jet skis (£30k a piece) and a mazeratti parked up, plus a little jeep for towing the boat and jet skis which cost £20k+.
Thats over a millions quids worth of kit/toys just parked up. Mentioned it to my customer and he said “yeah they are just there for when he comes down about 6 times a year. Half the site is like that”.

Now im pretty down the middle like most, im not a socialist, im just a working class grafter, but when i see a situation like that it does make me question that it cant be right.
If this guy has over a million pounds worth of ‘stuff’ just there for him 6 times a year , what else has he got? Whats his house like? A holiday home abroad?
How much brass has he got? Does he need it all?
Jealousy is not a good trait, roles reversed what would you do .

Terms like 'they' and 'us' make it hard to understand the point you're making..
Society (people?) Don't care about about the weak? I don't believe that, there's love in the world, it's not all 'contempt' as you say
We're all striving aren't we? Sick, young, old, whatever

The problem here is that you’ve no idea how they made their money. Regardless of their background, it often just takes an idea and lots of hard work. They’re free to spend their money however they wish.

You’re also a Blue. Our Sheikh isn’t short of money. Think of what he’s spent when we all read stories of those priced out.

That’s not jealousy. It’s just fucking scandalous that people at the very top like that are able to keep buying all the assets in this country whilst people with decent jobs can’t afford to buy a house.

We’re not talking about footballers wealth here(who pay huge taxes). There are people on another level to them who without actually working now are making an absolute fortune off all the property and assets they own. It’s disgraceful they aren’t being taxed more heavily. What hope is there though when the Prime Minister has over £700m

It’s not about an individual it’s about the system that is fucked.

20 million acres of England is owned by the filthy rich entitled aristocracy. People like the Duke of Westminster, who sails around Australia in his beautiful massive yacht during the UK winter.
Inherited titles land and wealth.
And most of that land was originally stolen.
The perimeter of the land owned by the Duke of Buccleugh is 3,000 miles long. He owns about a third of Scotland.

Strangely those on this site who can’t stand the thought of someone being rich, seem to be very selective. They never seem to stretch that criticism to our multi millionaire players or owners whatever they spend their money on.

They’re being taxed heavily though and actually working. Of course the money they’re earning is mental but the premier league also brings in a fortune to the country. The very elite are able to avoid tax or pay very little and just snap up all new properties, forcing up house prices and rents. That’s plain wrong as if it carries on the country will end up completely on its arse.

It’s bad for many now but it will be far worse in 10/20 years as house prices will continue to rocket and government debt will carry on rising. When the government brought in stamp duty on a 2nd home they also added in the small print that if you bought 6 houses you didn’t pay any. The current chancellor bought 7! Do you think that’s right and fair?

Firstly, you are making certain assumptions that all rich people other than footballers are tax dodgers. You also fail to say that many footballers are paid image rights through Ltd companies to save tax. As regards the Chancellor, you do not know when he acquired his properties. IF they were acquired all at the same time they were not exempt from tax, there was an option to be taxed under different rules and that option has now been abolished. They were never tax free.

I've embraced mediocrity all my life. I've always just done enough to get by. I've swerved promotions and responsibilities whenever possible and I've no regrets. I'm just not that bothered with having a lot of stuff.

But here's the thing. If I'd wanted to be rich there's very few countries on the planet that would afford me a better chance of acquiring great wealth.

There are no barriers to what you can achieve in a country like ours. The only limits are how hard you want to work and how much effort are you prepared to put in. (It's the reason thousands of people risk their lives every year in an attempt to be here).

People need to stop criticising the system as not working. It's usually they themselves that aren't working.

I’m not making assumptions that all rich are tax dodgers. I’m saying it’s wrong that there is a super rich in this country able to buy up as much property as they want and a lot are not as heavily taxed as they should be. As i said it’s not about individuals it’s a system that needs to change(it won’t) before it gets much worse.

This is not a case of work hard and you’ll do alright anymore. People with very good jobs on paper aren’t going to be able to afford their own house very soon. It’s wrong and will have huge ramifications for future generations. The point on the chancellor and his mate Rishi is Turkeys wouldn’t vote for Christmas. Half the press(owned by billionaires) have a lot of the poor in this country believing that the reason they’ll never have any money is because of some other poor sod arriving on a boat from France and it’s bullshiit. It’s mostly down to inequality and that absolutely rocketed during covid.

A fair point well made.

there is little equation behind hard work and wealth. If it were so most care workers or NHS nurses would be millionaires.

This might explain why absolute poverty is increasing.

It's too easy to be a filthy rich bastard and shaft people on the way up.

If you chose to be a nurse or care worker you're not really pursuing riches are you? And I'm making no judgement on people's choices.

If you have a clearly defined goal, which in the narrow context of this discussion is to accumulate great wealth, then hard work is a pre requisite.
