27 April 1974: Man Utd 0 Man City 1

What a experience for a 10 year old First visit to O.T Looking forward to fellow Bluemooners sharing their experiences of the day.

Highlights of the 27th April 1974 Manchester derby Commentary by Gerald Sinstadt.

Inc the aftermath of Denis Law's goal the pitch invasions and some interesting comments from Brian Moore on crowd control.

Big Match:

Did Utd ever receive any repercussions for this from the FA or is it the 2nd time they have gotten away from not completing a contractual fixture - non of my red school mates have responded to my happy back heel day message?

IIRC they had to put fencing up around the ground, the result stood as at the abandonment.

Two of us met a mate in the Manchester Arms near Victoria. He'd been on the piss with an Irish rag who was built like a brick out-house and believed our mate had once saved his life.
Dave took advantage and spent the bus journey to the swamp telling rags about pubs near second division grounds.
I left the rag road paddock once it became clear their mutant fans weren't leaving the pitch and was mightily relieved when Mick and Dave got on the special bus back to town.

But but but Denis didn’t put Utd down is the cry off reds, well at 3 o’clock they were in division one , but at 4.55 they were gone down to division 2 …
He didn't send them down, unfortunately. Because of results elsewhere, they were fucked, even if they beat us.

A couple of days before I had just returned from 5 months in Northern Ireland and a very pregnant Mrs Q was not a happy bunny at me going to this game but I was. We were stood parallel to Law when he scored and everyone went bananas.

He cemented the demise even IF everything had gone their way elsewhere, it was to no avail … And Denis has done it .

I was there that day and in early when they flooded across the pitch, they were cowardly scum who I saw head but an old fella who clapped Laws goal.
My understanding was they closed the gates and the vast majority of City fans were locked out.
