It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

Guimares doesn’t excite me as much as Neves would, but maybe that’s because of the age and hype.

Newcastle don’t control many games and the 6 is generally the player conducting that control.

If we got him for £50m + getting rid of Phillips, it’d be easier to like than spending £100m on him.

Im not very happy with this potential signing
It’s a worrying injury trend for someone who has only just turned 26, especially when one considers he’d be moving to a more rigorous league. Just because players have release clauses does not mean we have to activate them, though, and just because one piece of transfer gossip might be true, it doesn’t mean the others have to be.

We’ll know from player reactions across Europe this weekend who is waving au revoir and who is waving adieu.

Very underwhelming window with Bruno G, Frimpong and Olmo.

Bruno G is the only one I truly believe would be a brilliant signing. Very unsure on the other two though.

But the talk of Wirtz, Musiala and them type of players is just fan talk? We may go for one of them next summer if/when available? Bruno G and Frimpong would be fantastic signings imo and if Olmo can get fit adds something different to the squad as well and don’t forget about Savio

I don't see 'it' with Guimaraes at all. I'd much rather try to deploy Nunes deeper next season. He covers a ton of ground, is comfortable receiving the ball on the half-turn, and gets us upfield.

I am worried about keeping pace with Madrid from a talent perspective.

If we follow this haul up with a Wirtz type signing next year I get this window. If we don’t I could see us falling behind a bit.

After spending £42 million on Phillips and £53 million on Nunes, spending £100 million on Guimaraes is not without risk. I never saw it with Phillips, I haven’t seen it with Nunes, and I’ve yet to see it with Guimaraes, not at that price.

He’s a good player but one that looks better when he has Joelinton’s height and muscle beside him. If it’s the case that he can only shine for us alongside Rodri, then the latter will not get much rest.

It’s either third time lucky or someone in the transfer department should be seeking a transfer.

Completely agree - the board has a very poor record of securing that type of talent though. I can’t see us signing a Musiala or a Wirtz.

Release clause FC this summer too - I’d be all for it if it was Bruno G and Paqueta though.

Guimaraes, Nunes and Phillips couldn't be more different. Silly comparison. The clause is steep but I can absolutely see us paying it if he's the guy we want.

Not sure about Olmo at all. The release clause may be appealing but he's had yet another injury ridden season and I'm not sure we actually need another 8/10/winger type, even if Bernardo leaves. Bobb needs more minutes and Savio is seemingly arriving.

Frimpong? Yes please.

Could leave us with something like this:

Ederson
Frimpong Akanji Dias Gvardiol
Rodri Bruno G.
Foden KDB Grealish
Haaland

Ortega
Walker Stones Ake Lewis
Nunes Kovacic
Savio Bobb Doku
Alvarez

Probably need another left back option as Rico is definitely better in midfield. Ait-Nouri?

I’d welcome Guimaraes and Frimpong but Olmo seems like a plan E type signing. I thought Paqueta was nailed on this summer but doesn’t seem to be the case now.

I really hope it's not Dani Olmo.

He is a good creator, looking at his stats, and has a good long shot on him, I can see the Spanish connection as well.

But looking at his history, he has barely played alot of minutes/games in the Bundesliga.

He has like 3500 minutes in the last 3 years of the bundesliga, clearly some kind of fitness issue.

I'm not even sure why we would need him if Savio is coming in and Bobb and Nunes will clearly need increased minutes.
