He’s having to Cover Trippier

Saka can stay high and wide as he knows Walker can bully a lot of wingers and hold his own. Not the same when Trippier finds himself in attack and the ball going the other way.

As for Foden he's isolated on the left.
Look at the passing and support between Saka and Walker down the right.

Score early, hoof it, let opponents boss midfield, get put under pressure.
2nd half opponent scores, England stuck in defensive mode, end up scrabbling a draw.

suitable half but really not pulling up trees against not the hardest team, foden showning for it but not overly involved, Kane loving to drop deep means every ball put in he is missing, we have a midfield where he doesn't need to do it the plank, stay up top he bags 2-3 second half

I find foden so frustrating in and england shirt. He will get hooked on 60 and will probably end the tournament on the bench.

I agree he's missing an LB who can overlap, but in possession, he's playing where he wants to be centrally most of the time.

He's much better coming from the right side of midfield back onto his left and for all the bollocks about "fluidity" he knows he has a defensive job to do on the left.

Without Shaw effectively playing as a left winger, we’d arguably be better with Gordon on the left than Phil. Phil will only be able to shine with Shaw playing left wing as it frees him that little bit more. I’d expect Gordon for Phil at some point in the second half, with Trippier then staying deeper.
