Southgate should be sacked for going into a major tournament with TAA in midfield and experimenting with an untried system playing players out of their best positions. What other manager would do such a thing ?
You think they'll get to the q/f?
Because they are all being asked to be water carriers for Bellingham. You can see the players aren't enjoying it. They should be buzzing and floating past players , like they do for their clubs. Criminal lack of energy and too much fear.
Not much wrong with the players most of them had great seasons, the troubles a bit higher than that.Imagine the premier League if the 3 foreigner rule was still in place... #hardbrexit
Looking at St. Jude's performances over the 2 games I don't think you could do that with this England team. Seems to have bought into the hype and just seems to stand around doing nothing much of note. Kane would be okay dropping deep if the player in the #10 role would run on beyond. Bellingham didn't do that once this game. Nor is he effective in the press (see standing around comment) not that England as a team seemed to have much cohesion in which to do so anyway. How he remained on the pitch for 90mins is would be one of life's great mysteries except one look at the head coach and it speaks volumes. The obvious answer is to put Bellingham in the 8 role, foden as a 10 and Gordon on the left.
I admire your optimism. Seriously, I do.They'll beat Slovenia, get past the 3rd place side in the last 16 and then lose to the first decent side they face.
Well I only watched the last 30 minutes.
Feels like I'm going mad, because I've watched countless tournaments down the years, and the teams that come good later are rarely the ones sprinting through relatively tough group games. In fact winning big early on is usually a warning sign, the team won't cope when things go against them. In some ways, I think these are the best games to come through in tact.
It was. Sam Allardyce used similar tactics most effectively as Blackburn Rovers manager 15 years ago. Every free kick around the half way line was taken by the keeper and lofted into the penalty area. It was effective because it was clear that the keeper was taking the free kicks and the team was obviously well coached in the tactic.Genuinely believe that was the game plan towards the end - knock it long for Watkins and pray.
It was sadly grim watching injury time and Pickford trying to work out if it should REALLY be him taking free kicks from the half way line - lacking ANY sort of plan other than get a lead and live on our 18yd line
