Arguably, the two explanations are not mutually exclusive. Given his track record, the man displays all the characteristics of a psychopathic narcissist so, of course, he'll never admit to having lost the debate (particularly to a woman of colour). Where the former is concerned, I'd be surprised if the coterie of sycophants around him don't already realise that they're working for a certifiable nutjob. What they also know only too well is that any dissent will be met with the order of the boot pretty sharpish thereby putting an end to what is no doubt a nice little earner and opportunity for the unscrupulous to make a name for themselves in politics.
