Tough match. Our defense and Grealish have played superb, everyone else really poor. Gundogan having an awful match, and Bernardo as a winger might be one of the least dangerous players.

Akanji is undroppable. would like us to go back to the four centre backs tbh with akanji right sided and stones in the midfield hyrbid role. captain seems to have gone to walker’s head
 
That got better as it went on but I think we need Foden and/or Savinho still. Newcastle haven't got much to think about when it's going from side to side. Just having someone like Sav or Phil - something from nothing kinda players - would make a difference there. Otherwise okay. For the vast majority of that we looked pretty ordinary without looking disorganised.

Walker and Grealish both excellent. And what a classy goal we scored as well.
 
We’ve not been at our best but we’ve dug deep. Going to have to dig further yet, given the bench. Maybe we should put the Alvarez cheque on the empty seat…
 
I vaguely remember a game in the last year or so at Newcastle (think it was the cup game) where we were comfortable at HT and deserved to be easily ahead, dominating. Then they came out second half and all of them were trying to fire up their fans after every tackle, throw in, corner, anything - and we pretty much wilted to it and lost.

I think THAT is what we need to be ready for in the second half. Howe has had this idea of late that we don’t like aggression. Need to battle through the opening stages of the 2nd half as they will try to get more from their fans by being even more aggressive than they have been so far.
 
Defense looks solid but I get the feeling we are not keeping a clean sheet.

It’s obvious Gundogan been poor.

Love it when Rico has done space and Carrie’s the ball forward.

Bernie has been quiet. Jack has been quite good More control with him on the pitch.

Almost got another the last 10 minutes of the half. It was all City notwithstanding that excellent strike by joelinton and save by Eddie.
 
Would love to see a Kova-Bernardo-Phil midfield 3. Savinho at RW. Put Jeremy on for super Jack at 70 mins.
 
Fairly entertaining game with both teams being equally good and equally poor at varying stages of the half.

Only Gündoğan in the midfield is getting consistently involved in the game. Yeah things haven’t come off for him and he looks about 40 when running back, but he’s done more than Lewis and Kovačić combined. Those two need to get involved in the game. Deep midfield is where Yaya and Rodri had/have 120+ touches of the ball in games and dictate(d) play. I’d be surprised if Lewis and Kovačić had twenty passes combined that half.

I’d rather take one of those two off because at some point Gündoğan’s constant involvement is going to end in a goal or assist.

Bernardo quiet n’all but he’s not playing centrally.

Grealish, Gvardiol and the back four and keeper have all been good.

Newcastle also been randomly good and bad n’all.
