New CL Format Thoughts

I don't understand how Bratislava have played Celtic but we don't play Celtic. Not looked into this champs league format at all, so it might be obvious

Nah this format is great. I don't remember the last time we had such a greay day in UCL. Aston-Bayern, Lille-Madrid, Leipzig- Juve, Benfica-Atleti, even Liverpool-Bologna were all fantastic matches. You would be lucky to get 1 or 2 with the last format.

Not only that, but the last day will be exciting for 90% of the teams, and doing really well in the group stages is more rewarding now. If you just watch one team, it might not be as exciting, but if you love to watch other teams, this is by far the superior format.

I honestly find the champions league fucking boring. Don’t get me wrong we’ve had some great nights and winning it was the icing on the cake, however premier league all day

What's the gig with City and Bayern BTW? I was checking out a Bayern group on Reddit and they were calling City a boring team on there - saying Villa vs City must be the most boring match in the PL (referencing Villa's tactics today). Is there beef between Bayern and you guys as their fans seem to dislike City a lot?
It comes from the hierarchy at Bayern. They despise us with a passion. They view us as "new money", a club with no history. The ultimate players of City Bingo.

They won 1-0 . They will be going crazy with that.

How do you react to results at this stage? In the old Groups at least you had some idea of who’s doing what etc but I suspect nobody has a clue at the moment (which may be good or bad)

Its a bit of a free for all.
Basically anyone can play anyone.
Juventus play both ourselves and Villa but we don't play Villa.

32 teams.
Everyone plays 8 games against 8 different teams
4 home and 4 away
Top 8 automatically go through to last 16.
Teams 9th to 24th in a play off game. The 8 winners join the other 8 in the last 16.
Play off games are
9th v 24th
10th v 23rd
11th v 22nd
Etc

Fuck this, celtic went from 2nd to 20th after 1 game....

Still shit, not sold fuck off those who pushed this thru
Well they did get absolutely twatted, so they deserve to have dropped like that.

They are 20th out of 36… it’s the same as being 11th in the PL. If you won your first PL game and then got thrashed, you’d expect to be midtable after two games would you not?

Only 2 matches in but already in position required of top 8 and on 4pts.

Can’t really see the new format having much change to the outcome of expected qualifiers.

Both Real and Bayern lost.

Will be interesting.

People like to moan a bit too much these days.

The fact it's now a one off fixture means these wins really count for something in the overall scheme of things.

They wont just be cancelled out in a return fixture like they nearly always used to be, with Bayern & Real ending the group stages ahead via superior head-to-head dominance.

It is more chaotic.. but I don't think the good teams are going to get knocked out because of 1 bad game which could have happened in the previous format.

You have to be consistently bad to be #25 - 36.

Overall I think I like it. Like it a lot more than the Carabao Cup format which forced us to play on 1 days rest.
