Fulham (H) | PL | Post-Match Thread

We desperately need some legs in midfield. Pep clearly doesn't rate Nunes, but I feel like we have to give him a real run of games in midfield. Kova/Gundo are getting bypassed like they're not here. The warning signs have been there all season. Maybe some lack of motivation, poor transfer windows, and injuries have caught up to us, albeit it's still early in the season, but there's definitely some reason for concern.
disappointed to not see nunes today. he must be confident after a great goal in the cup, and another game in midweek.

more worrying for me is bernardo. i dont know where he fits in the team, very ineffective wide right and we need some legs in the centre.

Gundog is a write off in central midfield. hes looking like Casemeiro.

Lucky to get the 3 points and a really poor performance by many players. Looking back at that team and the bench it feels like a huge drop in quality/performance levels since the treble .
Said in a previous post that we have regressed massively and I asked the question whether the charges have made the club more reluctant to spend money in the recent transfer window.

There is a big Rodri shaped hole in the team.

Don't think Kova is able to play that role. In fact he looks a decent Gundo replacement. Speaking of whom, he doesn't look the same player. Maybe a year playing in La Liga has taken the edge of him.
Obviously Kev will be fit again and will start.

Bernardo's wasted out wide.

Still have no idea who to pick in a midfield 3.

Does it?

I remember plenty of negative comments that season when we were trailing to Arsenal for large parts of the season.

Spot on, and i'd give Stones the Rodri role. Gundo is a luxury we can't afford atm.

A random thought circulating my head is that the PL have said if you promise to let the other boys win this season we'll drop the charges.

No we weren't - either poor or outplayed. They played well on the break and had some good periods of possession in the second half that caused us problems, but they weren't the better side.
I didn’t say they were the better side. I said we were poor, which we were, and that we were outplayed for large parts of the game, which we were. We had 52% possession today which indicates how close it was.

Nunes is the only player with any speed in midfield, particularly running back to our box. We need to appreciate that the older legs are tiring earlier than they used to and get Nunes on in the middle before the opposition seizes the advantage. We’re riding our luck at the moment but that won’t hold indefinitely.

Bernardo in the centre Gundo is offering nothing at the moment, get a settled back four, trying to shoehorn Lewis in is compromising the back four, Akanji(Walker) stones Diaz Guardiol. Lewis is good but I don’t see where he plays he’s definitely not a right back and others seem ahead of him in midfield. Haaland is getting zero service unless KDB plays. Fulham played well but scarily cut through us too easily. Glad for the win but Pep needs to sort us shopping goals if it wasn’t for Eddie we would’ve lost convincingly today.

Like the Brentford game, very very lucky to have all 3 points due to them both missing great chances to go 2 up.
Pep worked a miracle last season to make 4 in a row history but i am afraid this team and squad looks like it will fall short this season.

A shockingly bad defence these days, god knows why, as its the same players that have done well previously, we just cannot keep a clean sheet in the PL.
A huge issue for this is our awful midfield. Zero pace, no energy and teams just run through us at will.

A case of largely 2 hugely disappointing summer windows, not addressing our shallow squad depth, poor buys and not addressing key areas that needs addressing whilst actually making our squad weaker by selling and not replacing only our 2nd striker in the squad.

3rd is the best i feel we can finish this season, both Dippers and Arsenal look far better teams, Dippers have more goals throughout the team and the way they are being officiated whilst both them and Arsenal create so much, and score lots from set pieces.

Our set piece coach is so bad he has become satirical, todays were more embarrassing than ever and presented more chances for the opposition, how Pep cannot see this and give him the sack us baffling.

And a team of our size these days, it’s extremely poor squad planning when we have a few players injured and cannot name a bench with the allotted places and that even included 2 keepers.
3 of our buys last summer scored all the goals the last 2 PL games, Nunes is the only one you can call poor, we should've bought a RB and a DM I feel though.

The reality is nobody is a suitable replacement for Rodri

We're talking about a defensive midfielder that was among the top two favourites to win the Ballon d'or. That's the level he's at. Anybody is going to be a drop off in quality. It is what it is. You can get a player who specialises in that role and it won't be near the standard of Rodri.

It's almost not worth worrying about because you can't do much about it.

The Boys in Blue didn’t give in. They fought to the end. Thank you City, thank you lads, thank you fans. You showed’em, you showed’em all.
Especially the Southern Softy Cottagers. They gave us a good work out but couldn’t take us down.
Especially the know nowt media who will probably be writing us off again. Ha don’t count your chickens you codswallops.
Especially the Specsavers needing, whistle blowing so called officials. Official shiitake mushrooms, official fools, official bawheid, fraggle rocks. You still won’t accept that we are Manchester City, the best team in the land and all the world!! :-)

Well done John Boy. You should have been there from the start. :-)

Happy with the 3 points, don't want to see Gundo and Kova in the same midfield again.

Apart from the first 20 minutes I thought we were poor, we played with little to no tempo, far too congested in the middle of the park, passing for the sake of passing.

Bernardo is wasted on the wing, Jack needs to start creating or scoring, when we make a substitution it shouldn't mean the whole team needs to switch positions and formation.

Credit to Fulham today, thought they played some nice flowing football.

Still un beaten.

This is where youll see the diff in the press citys headline will be nervy city hold on for victory against unlucky fulham whereas arsenal will storm back to victory against southampton and liverpool cruise to victory against palace.
Sounds about right!

That was, for want of a better word.. SHITE! Today was a day when we got away with murder. I don't want to dig out anybody in particular because I'll be here all day. I'll concentrate on the positives..DOKU YOU FUCKING BEAUTY!!! The passing today was probably the worst I've witnessed in a fair few seasons. We got the 3 points, and that's all that matters at the end of the day. In all honesty, it's going to take one herculean effort to win it this year..can we ? YES..but we need to be so much better. CTID!

il take it, we have previously lost games like that and went on to be champions, pep will sort things but the worst thing to do is panic buy in Jan
