City launch legal action against the Premier League | Club & PL reach settlement | Proceedings dropped (p1147)

Yeah but it isn't retrospectively applied. So they'll have to factor in an extra £20m for the loans or so however in reality what you'll see is a massive Walmart sponsorship deal at whatever value the Kroenkes can get away with so I don't think it affects Arsenal in reality as that will just replace the shareholder loans. It's the same money basically.

Smaller clubs without super wealthy owners who own other massive companies may feel it more though.
Its more than that though as if you take Brighton as an example they may choose to vote against a new set of rules that essentially whacks c£90m onto each PSR cycle of new costs and there will be others in same boat. In addition why would Kroenkes wife's family stick money into Arsenal ? And is that not exactly what APT was meant to stop. There is no way they cough up £200m in sponsorship to cover the loans although Kroenke himself may try to cover the interest in some form of sponsorship (doubt it as he would be losing £40m a year , the £20m he forego's in earning power and £20m to cover the PSR shortfall). Its a big blow to the Arse.

Tim Lewis at Arsenal is going to be pulling his hair out now.

Interesting thought for the day...

Will City be paying themselves 1/20th of the lost income penalty charge?

Beyond the fact that is a very obvious attempt at saving face for being demonstratively wrong with his earlier “reporting”, the second tweet is utter nonsense. The league cannot simply revert to rules that no longer exist. And the rulings that shareholder loans must now be included in APT assessments, whatever the new compliant rules end up being, is a major change that will have implications for many PL clubs and ramifications for the wider market.

That series of follow up tweets (you can read the others if you dare click on the link to go to the thread on X) are objectively Trumpian.
It’s fucking hilarious watching these people who are barely qualified to tweet about football flailing around in a pitiful attempt to pontificate about matters of law that they plainly don’t understand.

And the frightening aspect of it is that more people than not will simply read their nonsensical pontifications and take them as gospel.

There's a huge opportunity here for City to show the Premier League and our rivals up for what they are.

I would like to see a bold statement, to publicly acknowledge the findings and state that although we are entitled to damages, we will not be pursuing them. Advise that our only aim was to ensure a level playing field for all and suggest that we forego damages in the hope that these funds are reinvested into the grassroots level of the game.

Fuck that, take them for at least £300 million for reputational damage, the least they can do is pay for our new stand and hotel complex.
