President Trump

It’s worst than him just being surrounded by yes men. It’s a two-way street, as he’s a yes man and useful idiot to some very dangerous people.

I posted a long time ago that he (and his handlers) would slowly ramp up his rhetoric, little-by-little, to the point where he was openly calling for the rounding up and imprisonment of immigrants and political dissidents and opponents, and even the injury or killing of his enemies, and his supporters would not only not bat an eye—or see the parallels with previous fascist leaders—they would applaud it. And that most media outlets would not cover it with the seriousness and sobriety it deserved, because they and most interested parties would have become relatively accustomed and numb to the rhetoric.

That is exactly what he has been doing. It is the same thing every dangerous populist wanna-be dictator has done over the course of history.

He’ll likely go even further over the next few weeks as he becomes more desperate to win, and certainly even further than that if he wins.

And people still strangely don’t see the similarities with the rise of previous populist totalitarian regimes.

Arrest a man outside a Trump rally but allow them to walk around in crowds during disturbances.

What a fucked up system.

There would be a train of thought, that admittedly I haven’t over thought here, so if I haven’t completely thought through my argument, feel free to pick it apart….,
Anyway it goes along the lines that it goes back much further than this and the last generation of parents.
It goes back to your days of Empire when you systematically f**ked up any ex-colonial state you were leaving.
There’s several current examples to choose from for demonstration.

The difference now is that with the shrinking or nonexistent empire, you are left with just yourselves to f**k up.

Maybe it’s concentrated the collective Working class British mind on your own ruling system.

Just a thought.
Oh do fuck off.

But some seem to think he and Vance aren’t really a threat to what is left of democracy (both in America and elsewhere) and forceful denouncing and opposing them is just “silly American politics”.

Donald Trump is ramping up his rhetoric depicting his political rivals and critics as criminals, while dropping a long trail of suggestions that he favors outlawing political speech that he deems misleading or challenges his claims to power.

In a speech Friday in Aurora, Colorado, the Republican presidential nominee blasted the immigration system and lobbed a rhetorical grenade at his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.

“She’s a criminal. She’s a criminal,” said Trump, who was convicted of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in his New York hush money trial. “She really is, if you think about it.”

It’s a pattern of messaging that has long been part of Trump’s stump speeches but has escalated significantly in his 2024 candidacy. In the final stretch to the Nov. 5 election, the former president has developed a tendency to claim that speech he disapproves of is illegal, even if it is protected by the First Amendment.

A questionable cut of a “60 Minutes” Harris interview? “Totally illegal,” Trump wrote on X, saying it makes Harris look better and that CBS should have its broadcast license revoked.

Donald Trump is increasingly calling speech he doesn’t like “illegal.”

The Harris campaign editing headlines in paid Google ads? “Totally Illegal,” he wrote, vowing that Google “will pay a big price” for it.

I'm not sure some people can grasp that by not liking him twice as much their vote against him isn't any more significant. He is absolutely a symptom of 'silly American politics'. Trump is not the issue, he's just a savvy opportunist adept at mobilising rw fears. Trump is not the problem, the problem is that a huge chunk of the US electorate think he's a good idea.
Like the oxygen, heat, fuel fire triangle you need to take something away to put the fire out. I think the 'trump triangle' consists of right wing ideas, economic hard times, liberal hatred outrage (to create polarisation and a sense of persecution). Imho take any one of those away and trump goes away - good luck trying to stamp out rw ideas/resentments and fix the blue collar economy.

Wow, then problem solved! No “economic hard times.” Sorted.

Very possibly - all around the western world we are seeing rw populists springing up just has we have done throughout history when times are hard.
The pandemic, and the blame, certainly generated a certain amount of RW hatred towards the left, but the US economy is doing just fine. In fact, having been reared on zero % Interest rates since 2009, we have finally achieved some actual normalcy…which is NOT 1% mortgages, 0.1% bank savings rates, and free money, but 4% interest rates, 5% mortgages and 3% savings rates…all coupled with historically low unemployment.

Everything can be spun, and I regularly engage is a Right vs Left joust with a soybean trader friend of mine. However, even with smart guys like him, his prejudice for Dems in general, and a black female Dem running for President, in particular, have him spouting RWNJ talking points. It’s beyond silly, ridiculous and scary how absolutely stupid, gullible and blind some people are in this country.

But, perhaps the scariest thing of all is that every major news outlet in the country openly speaks about the persistent lies spewed by Trump and how his main points of attack are simply FALSE…but the Cult doesn’t care. They have the “alternate facts” Kellyanne Conway described years ago, and they swallow them, hook, line and sinker, and repeat them ad nauseum!

Early voting starts in my IL village next Monday and I plan to vote as early as possible and then turn the lies off.

I am genuinely fearful for what 2028 America will look like if Trump gets elected. If Trump gets elected with a Senate majority and a House majority, I’m fearful for what 2025 America will look like…and Trump will get the chance to seat TWO MORE Heritage Foundation/Federalist Society SCOTUS Justices, so we will be fucked for the rest of my natural life!

You are dead right. Trump went into politics to take advantage of the crazy state of the USA.

To make America less crazy would take a gazillion dollars and a generation or 2 or 3.

Trump just going away would be a great start.

(Who knows though....the next one could be worse. At least Trump is genuinely funny.)
