Times aren't that hard. It's not the 1920s. Something else is going on.Very possibly - all around the western world we are seeing rw populists springing up just has we have done throughout history when times are hard.

It's hard to imagine the maga base uniting around any one figure post Trump. Its so cult like that the only people who come close to having perceived power and influence, other than Trump, are the absolute boot lickers. Take the proximity to Trump away and they have nothing. You are dead right. Trump went into politics to take advantage of the crazy state of the USA.
To make America less crazy would take a gazillion dollars and a generation or 2 or 3.
Trump just going away would be a great start.
(Who knows though....the next one could be worse. At least Trump is genuinely funny.)
Social media has given a voice and credibility to idiots that would in times gone have just been ignored. It allows the likes of MTG to get elected and dump ass politics starts to take hold.Times aren't that hard. It's not the 1920s. Something else is going on.
I don't think it's just the Trump family that have a shot at being the next Trump. It could be any evangelist that no one knows about yet. More fool the supreme-leader-wannabies if they don't try to take advantage of America right now. It is ripe. It's hard to imagine the maga base uniting around any one figure post Trump. If you assume Trump loses this election and dies in the next 4 years the GOP could pick anyone. The field for the next candidate could be 100 strong. Mostly Trump imitators, but the seasoned politicians would have a big edge. Maybe someone from the family, Don Jnr? But I don't see it, I don't think they have that same ability to drive wide support. So it's wide open.

The pandemic, and the blame, certainly generated a certain amount of RW hatred towards the left, but the US economy is doing just fine. In fact, having been reared on zero % Interest rates since 2009, we have finally achieved some actual normalcy…which is NOT 1% mortgages, 0.1% bank savings rates, and free money, but 4% interest rates, 5% mortgages and 3% savings rates…all coupled with historically low unemployment.
Everything can be spun, and I regularly engage is a Right vs Left joust with a soybean trader friend of mine. However, even with smart guys like him, his prejudice for Dems in general, and a black female Dem running for President, in particular, have him spouting RWNJ talking points. It’s beyond silly, ridiculous and scary how absolutely stupid, gullible and blind some people are in this country.
But, perhaps the scariest thing of all is that every major news outlet in the country openly speaks about the persistent lies spewed by Trump and how his main points of attack are simply FALSE…but the Cult doesn’t care. They have the “alternate facts” Kellyanne Conway described years ago, and they swallow them, hook, line and sinker, and repeat them ad nauseum!
Early voting starts in my IL village next Monday and I plan to vote as early as possible and then turn the lies off.
I am genuinely fearful for what 2028 America will look like if Trump gets elected. If Trump gets elected with a Senate majority and a House majority, I’m fearful for what 2025 America will look like…and Trump will get the chance to seat TWO MORE Heritage Foundation/Federalist Society SCOTUS Justices, so we will be fucked for the rest of my natural life!
True. But in a huge field how do they stand out. If there's 20+ of them then Niki Hayley takes an immediate lead with around 20%. But the maga base will never take to someone who was at one point very anti Trump.I don't think it's just the Trump family that have a shot at being the next Trump. It could be any evangelist that no one knows about yet. More fool the supreme-leader-wannabies if they don't try to take advantage of America right now. It is ripe.

That is bollocks. This is as bad as any period in recorded hsitory.
Cool, you'll be able to provide data to refute that BBC article then (based on data from the Resolution foundation)That is bollocks.
“As bad as period in recorded history” - I’m not going to waste my time explaining to you why that’s the most ridiculous assertion you’ve made on here as I don’t think I have enough crayons and if I had enough, I’m sure you’d only eat them.Cool, you'll be able to provide data to refute that BBC article then (based on data from the Resolution foundation)

Also it’s 2024, not 2017. Relying on a wank article written by a Beeb hack seven years ago and believing that recorded history started in Napoleonic times ain’t the strongest argument I’ve ever heard.
Look up Statute of Labourers (1351) for a start.
Of course I can bloody refute it, I gave you one example which you obviously ignored and also pointed out that 2017 is not 2024, other than that, great source article for your idiotic claim that it’s the worst period “in recorded history history”.Ah, so you can't refute it. Enjoy spouting some more random insults.

It is the worst period since records of wages exist, which is what I meant.Of course I can bloody refute it, I gave you one example which you obviously ignored and also pointed out that 2017 is not 2024, other than that, great source article for your idiotic claim that it’s the worst period “in recorded history history”.
Again you’re wrong as real earnings picked up since 2017, when your source was written. It is the worst period since records of wages exist, which is what I meant.
And anyway, if you don't like that, you can insert "worst period since the industrial revolution".
The point is that there are very good economic reasons why demagogues are flourishing, and that by historical standards, the last coupole of decades is actually pretty exceptional.
Ranting and insulting doesn't make an argument.

Good one! :-)He’s as funny as cancer.
It’s hard to say in a sentence or two exactly what it was but there have been several good books written about the reason he was (just about) elected via the EC.I think it’s mainly based on immigration fears.
