It's hard to imagine the maga base uniting around any one figure post Trump. Its so cult like that the only people who come close to having perceived power and influence, other than Trump, are the absolute boot lickers. Take the proximity to Trump away and they have nothing.

If you assume Trump loses this election and dies in the next 4 years the GOP could pick anyone. The field for the next candidate could be 100 strong. Mostly Trump imitators, but the seasoned politicians would have a big edge. Maybe someone from the family, Don Jnr? But I don't see it, I don't think they have that same ability to drive wide support. So it's wide open.

Social media has given a voice and credibility to idiots that would in times gone have just been ignored. It allows the likes of MTG to get elected and dump ass politics starts to take hold.

I don't think it's just the Trump family that have a shot at being the next Trump. It could be any evangelist that no one knows about yet. More fool the supreme-leader-wannabies if they don't try to take advantage of America right now. It is ripe.

AIUI real incomes for most people have stagnated or gone down for many years.

This is as bad as any period in recorded hsitory.

It's not as dramatic as the great depression, but actually more significant.

I am genuinely fearful for what 2028 America will look like if Trump gets elected. If Trump gets elected with a Senate majority and a House majority, I’m fearful for what 2025 America will look like…and Trump will get the chance to seat TWO MORE Heritage Foundation/Federalist Society SCOTUS Justices, so we will be fucked for the rest of my natural life!

Politicians aren’t my favourite kind of people at the best of times but Trump is a special kind of **** followed and supported by cunts.

True. But in a huge field how do they stand out. If there's 20+ of them then Niki Hayley takes an immediate lead with around 20%. But the maga base will never take to someone who was at one point very anti Trump.

Same with a Ted Cruz type. Maga people tolerate these politicians, they don't support them.

Of course I can bloody refute it, I gave you one example which you obviously ignored and also pointed out that 2017 is not 2024, other than that, great source article for your idiotic claim that it’s the worst period “in recorded history history”.

It is the worst period since records of wages exist, which is what I meant.

And anyway, if you don't like that, you can insert "worst period since the industrial revolution".

The point is that there are very good economic reasons why demagogues are flourishing, and that by historical standards, the last coupole of decades is actually pretty exceptional.

Ranting and insulting doesn't make an argument.

Again you’re wrong as real earnings picked up since 2017, when your source was written.

I’m an economist, you picked a seven year period (2010-2017), in Britain, to explain why the US picked a racist fuck to govern them (thanks only due to the electoral college) in the United States.

Your argument is complete and utter bollocks and doesn’t even begin to understand the social and political reasons why Trump was elected in 2016. One reason he wasn’t, was real wage growth in the UK between 2010–2017.

Here is real wage growth in the US for the 30 years prior to Trump:

It’s hard to say in a sentence or two exactly what it was but there have been several good books written about the reason he was (just about) elected via the EC.

It certainly wasn’t due to it being the hardest times in the last 4,000 years economically.
