Well, that's utterly alarming and frankly depressing.
It is an incredibly dangerous and nonsensical ruling.

Will other states now use this ruling as a basis to rule as invalid any ballots received after election day?

Will some go even further to invalidate any early or mail-in ballots?

Will SCOTUS even hear any appeal before election day?

And this is just one of MANY legal and systematic challenges to the election system.

There have been several instances of state law enforcement being engaged in ballot/registration fraud or vote intimidation in swing states just this past week, with most (if not all) of the instances either being connected to, or supposedly involving, republican-affiliated groups.

They are attacking the election process to completely delegitimise it, so that any outcome other than Trump winning can be cast as fraud (even when they are the ones committing, like most of the limited instances of fraud in the 2020 election) and challenged all the way up to SCOTUS.

Do many get into congress?
If I recall right, Sanders is an Independent who caucuses with Democrats. Not sure about the House. It’s quite infrequent though; more often folks get elected as an R or D and then switch to Independent.

Edit — Manchin, Sinema and King also in the Senate. None in the House currently.

I know a quite few people registered as Independents and even the odd Libertarian — the point of registering to a party is to be able to vote in primary elections. It varies by state though. In CA you can choose to vote in whichever primary you like regardless of how you are registered, e.g.

I think I read that in terms of new registrations the independents are a fast growing and increasingly significant sector? If so probably good news in terms of a healthy democracy

(The) MSM expect Harris to be 'flawless' whilst allowing Trump a free pass for being 'lawless'.

Sums up the last 14 weeks of this campaign in one sentence!

“What’s the Harris policy on …???”

And, Trump???

“Oh, he’s a known quantity. He’s been President and everything was great! Wine and roses all around!”

Meanwhile, in the REAL WORLD…

Yeah, that Biden guy REALLY fucked us over!

Fixed inflation, oversaw significant GDP & job growth and the stock markets have been on a tear!

Hurt me some more Biden/Harris!

Meanwhile, Trump’s plan redux is another $8+ TRILLION IN NATIONAL DEBT, a 20% TARIFF on everything, and tax breaks for his buddies!!

And, that’s before he hands Ukraine to Putin, has another love affair with Jong-Un, and tells NATO to go fuck itself!
