Rodri - The 2024 Ballon d'Or Winner! (Pg 131)

Utterly classless pricks Real Madrid, yet we already knew this.

Rodri is the best in the world, we knew this too.

Delighted for him, he so deserves it. I hope it gives him a massive boost in his recovery.

Been impressed with Dias in the last 24 hours too, showing his leadership. Traveled out there, his comms on social etc about Rodri has been spot on - concise, personal, clearly supported him back stage as per a few photos.
haha did you see Bernardos? Taking the piss out of Dias finishing 30th. He's a proper little twat :)

But agree about Dias in the main. Top guy. Bernardo too.

If it were up to me, any player who declares the ballon d’or to be their ultimate aim int he sport should be banned from ever winning it (cough Bellingham, Alexander Arnold, Neymar, Vinicius, Mbappe cough)

This is a team sport and any individual awards should be seen as incidental to team success.

The best thing about Rodri winning was him saying he never focused on winning it.

100 % this

Absolutely spot on Bez. Their actions and that shown by the idiots shouting “Vini” when the announcement was just about to be made are totally disrespectful. It shows how childish and pathetic they are. I think that they need to take a good look at themselves.
They might not like what they see. They are a very ugly club LOL

After this stunt... Real Madrid are not respected at the Etihad so does that mean they'll never visit us again?

The more I think about it the more I think their responses was one of sheer bewilderment that their various backhanders and blackmail schemes didn’t see their player win it.

It’s the same behaviour of the kid that shows up to the park with the expensive official math ball to play with but then goes in to a rage because he can’t be a team captain, grabs it back, and goes home.

Now that the joy and applause have settled down on Rodri winning, what does it mean for Manchester City and the Premier League? First, Manchester City have produced a ballon-dor winner on merit. Second, it shows that the Premier League is a great league.

Manchester City can now say to players come to us and we can make you a ballon-dor-winner, Also Haaland does not need to move to Spain if he dreams of being a ballon-dor-winner, Manchester City has now been rewarded for all the hard work from everybody from Pep to the tea lady,

For the first time, I think Manchester City are now at the top table with the so-called elite clubs, You can win it all at Manchester City, We now have a Ballon Dor player who won it playing for Manchester City, That is BIG in football terms and sort of sends the Litle old city quotes and puts them to bed,

The Media and Image Value Manchester City hold around the world is now Big Money and Others will want to tap into it including Uefa, Fifa, Premier League, We now have something they want to be linked to,

Fantastic News for Rodri and it is well-deserved and for Manchester City its buzzing

You know, if we do meet them at home in the CL, we should have two giant tifos to congratulate both Rodri and Vini Jr: one in the north stand for the Ballon d’Or win, and one right beside the away section in the south stand for the Cryon d’Floor win.

They should be dropped to the bench by their club, for a start. It is totally the wrong attitude. Anyway, although I'm very pleased for Rod and MCFC, at the risk of being very unpopular on here I have to say that I see this as a tinseltown award, in many respects similar to the Oscars, and I pay about as much mind to it. Many many times the Oscar for best film has been awarded to what was clearly not the best film that year. The awarding of the Ballon d'Or over and over again to Messi and Ronaldo discredited it for me. And they are both great footballers. That's not the question.
One very good thing though is that it has been awarded to a defensive midfielder. Now we all love spectacular attacking players, but anyone who understands the game at all knows that they are enabled by everything that's going on in midfield and defence.

It's easy to call him a "defensive midfielder", but he's much more than that, he scores goals and makes assists too, many of these turn out to be match winners, alongside some of the more defensive duties that win matches for us.

I've never really been a fan of the award, but I'm dellighted Rodri won it, as well as the glorious meltdown that ensued in madrid.

A truly great player is always more than the bald job description indicated by two words. So we're not disagreeing.

Amazing how genuine class influences what people say and do, isn’t it?

And how the lack of it leads to what we have seen from Real Madrid and Vini Jr, etc.

It does indeed.

Everyone associated with City, particularly Rodri and Pep, have behaved impeccably, not that anyone outside the club will acknowledge it.

How nice that a nice sensible bloke wins it for a change. Someone not obsessed with (or even on) social media or their image. Someone who drives a sensible car and goes to university to study whilst playing football. Sometime the good guys do win

Oh I wasn't disagreeing, I just thought it needed adding that he's far more than that for us, and fully deserving of an accolade I still really don't value that highly.

The best thing is that he recognises (from his own words) that he's just a cog in the machine, can't imagine any of mbappe, bellingham, or vinicious jr doing any of that.

Loved our (after) party singing and waving the white hankies, just shows how close they all are.
