Injuries 2024/25 | Ake & Bobb return to training

Is this the worst run of injuries we've ever had? I don't remember one quite like it. Certain players seem to be injured a lot. Dias, Grealish for two. Phil has his share too. Johnny Stones has always had this problem. Since Ake joined us he's another one who's unfit a fair bit. Weirdly consider how much he was flogged to death Rodri was rarely injured until he picked this bad one up.
Look back to Dec 1970, far, far worse beginning with Glyn Pardoe having his leg broken by that twat Best.

Might as well get used to the injuries cos they’re gonna happen more and more over the next few seasons.
As long as teams are playing stupid amount of games, more so teams playing in Europe the injuries will continue.
More champions league games, more international football and yet squad sizes stay the same size, so does the allowed losses over 3 seasons.
We’re already seeing how all these extra games are affecting the quality of football.
It’s dropping season upon season, more so from the top 6.
International football quality is night and day from what it once was.
Rodri told them but they didn’t listen cos he plays for City with its vast amount of wealth and its huge squad size and 4 players in every position.
They either allow bigger squads are more spending or the injuries will continue and the standard of football will continue to decline.
A good start would be to remove all teams playing in Europe from the league cup.
That gives the players a much needed rest and also gives teams outside the top 6 more chance of a trophy.
Far too sensible.

Because they don't know what they are doing. Another example De Bruyne was left without surgery all Summer for his hamstring injury then it pinged the first game he played against Burnley and he missed half the season. What the fuck is going on here? They are paid to make the right calls in this situation and they didn't! Time and time again. Why aren't they helping Pep out and providing excuses to International teams when they take our players for friendlies like the medical staff at Liverpool and Arsenal do. It's not fucking good enough. Only 1 of our injuries was down to impact and that's Rodri. The training and recovery isn't fucking right. The injury list speaks for itself.
Yeah shame that doesnt happen - we might have the records of Liverpool and Arsenal then

That was a horrendous season. Just about every first team player got injured and missed many games and City finished the season with third team players in the first team. Things were so bad that when City played Liverpool at Maine Road they fielded a reserve side because of all the injuries. Liverpool did too but that was because they rested players before a big European game. Liverpool were fined for fielding a weakened team but City weren't. I recall a young lad called Howard White making his debut at number 6 because Alan Oakes and his back up were both injured. He started in the 3rd team that season and IIRC hadn't even played much for the reserves. He broke his ankle in that match and never played for City again.

In those days players would play with cortisone injections every week and then be crippled by their mid-thirties. Teams would often have relatively small squads. To be out injured then was usually serious.

For all the injuries, the only one that is really costing us is Rodders. Having Kovacic and Gundo in that central midfield for what is looking like most of the season is my biggest worry. We look pretty laboured in there and one dimensional and that’s hard to see changing with any imminent returns.

I think Pep is either being very clever with player injuries or it will spectacularly fail like the dropped points at Bournemouth.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he is allowing the players time off by giving such bland statements re fitness and timeframe. Out for a little, long time. Could be interpreted as we are using the injury to give them
a proper rest. It could be a masterstroke if we go on a winning run after Jan.

I think the same, he's just resting players who he thinks are in need of it

The injuries aren't ideal, but thanks mainly to the virtual non existent official communication we have to rely on contradictory twitter rumours and the odd response from Pep in a press conference (which immediately becomes headlined and twisted on social media)

Oscar Bobb was injured mid August and we were told 3-4 months for his recovery
That would mean sometime around mid December, but now we're told that everything is ahead of schedule and he could be back in Jan/Feb.
"non existent official communication "

Do you want Pep and the club to issue the players full medical reports?

Why is half our squad injured then? Who's fault is it?

Dias was fine to fly to France for the Ballon D'or party now he's injured for 2 weeks? Fucking why and how? What's going on?
Go and have a lie down or you will be joining the sick list, the man in the white coats will come knocking.

I think there is some truth in this. We have repeatedly come strong in March onwards, often after multiple injuries, just as Arsenal and especially the scousers run out of steam, having completely failed to rotate. I’m pretty sure that is the objective again. That said, with the ever increasing workload, we could do with boosting the squad number by a couple.

Will KDB be going on international duty next week, if he plays any part in the two games this week?
I wouldn't like to think so.

That goes for a few others who are just back from injury.

What's "a little bit of a long time"?

And before anyone pipes up, yes; his English is markedly better than my Spanish.

Stones is a strange one, seems to pick up a lot of injuries away from actual match days and be out for an unspecified period of time with a lot of them
