Sporting CP (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Can we please sprinkle some holy water on the legs of a 38 year old Kompany, and tell him to come home.

We are leaderless and rudderless.

Next game, can somebody PLEASE tell our "back 4" to stay a little deeper

Let's have a sensible discussion without some people calling people "Entitled" or "Fanny Wipes" or "Happy Clappers".

We played some of our best football for 35 minutes. Didn't put chances away. But, we give away the same goal every single game and it has nothing to do with individuals and everything to do with the style of football we play - which is not like pep's first season at all, where everyone was learning something new.

We push everyone into the last 3rd of the pitch and becuase they can pack the box with 7-8 players - they play the odds - leave 2 up, generally quick and hope we give the ball away. Even though we played good football, they still had the 2 best chances in the first half, and scored one of them. Its fucking suicidal football. Their 2nd goal was lovely, you can't argue with that, but that first goal was completely unnecessary if we play a different way.

We're more control based, and i actually think our players (who are fit) are not suited to this. Haaland thrives on through balls that never get played. Savinho (who was absolutely horrendous in that 2nd half - abominable selfish terrible) clearly likes to play fast. Nunes wants to play quick. Rico wants to play quick. Foden plays how he's told, so would play quick. And yet we play slow.

I don't get it, i don't get it at all.

Embarrassing. Totally in control then completely spunk it away with a juvenile level of defending. Some really abject performances out there.
Savinho was utter guff from 1st minute yet people were getting very excited over him at HT...weird
Abysmal pen from Haaland, couple of bad misses too 1st half.
The normal reliable Gvardiol had a dreadful 2nd half.
Not many of our CL winning team started tonight, 4 I think. The players that took their places showed they are well off the level needed, at the moment.
The drop off in performance from the 5-0 here a couple of years ago was frightening, that team scored early and put the foot down. This lot scored early and melted away.
2 long unbeaten runs ending within 3 days

Feels like 16/17 all over again, pep has not been backed at all in the transfer window and it’s causing devastating consequences. People thought my criticism of the squad was hyperbole after the Bournemouth game, well unfortunately I’ve been proven correct.

The simple fact is despite having arguably the greatest manager of all time, our squad is so poor I do not believe we will get Top 4 this season unless we sign at least 2 players in the Jan transfer window.
She's back.

Honestly not sure what to make of that....

We were pretty good in the first half and should have had two or three. I've said for years we aren't clinical enough.

And now we've no defence, not helped with no protection from Rodders...

Then three stupid penalties. We miss ours and they score both theirs...

I need to sleep on it [emoji2357]

We looked ok going forward. Unfortunately Haaland had a terrible night - in another game we could have been 3 up and the match would have been over.
Defending was as bad as we have seen for maybe 7/ 8 years. Horrible. Injuries are killing us at the moment. Time to grit our teeth, this will not get better soon.
It’s a long season though, keep the faith..

Sometimes you have to admit that it is difficult when you come up against this level of sporting directors.

In all seriousness though, we look so vulnerable it is unreal. I still expect Pep to fix this, but our squad at this moment of time is the worst we have had for years.

an absolute mad 40 seconds at the start of the second half fully punished.

Much work required, 3 defeats in a row, my memory is awful but I'd say it was a long time since that happened.

Meh I’m more annoyed we lost to the twat taking over at the rags than the loss it self as we’re piss poor at the min and could easily lose to Brighton and that’s just the reality of where we are at the minute
It will give the rags false hope, this result wasn’t him or his tactics every manager this season and even others paly this way against us but like Bournemouth they had aggression which we couldn’t cope with
Pep refuses to change his MO and become more pragmatic which he should do due to the injuries We must take out chance though if we had it would have reversed the score a second would have destroyed them

Woeful performance from the team tonight, I havnt seen us play that bad in a long time.

How have we ended up in a situation where we have 5 attack minded players who don’t offer any real goal threat (Doku, Grealish, Savinho, Bernardo and Nunes)?
Yeah honestly this is daft. We’ve gone from wingers who score 15+ to these lot. If Haaland doesn’t turn up we’re fucked

again i will say shut it dickhead
You’ve put it a bit more bluntly than I would lol. Does my head in all those who post calling people this that and the other. As if you shouldn’t get annoyed after a poor performance. Don’t think I’ve ever posted complaining about a performance but I get those who do.

Not backed? It's him that wants tiny squads. Who did he want we didn't go for?

It was clear we needed to replace walker kev and backup for rodri and haaland. We didn't do a single one and then sold alvarez
Bruno G. Bellingham. Rice. Barella
