Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I don’t fully agree tbh. Brighton weren’t brilliant yesterday it was just we were so knackered. Liverpool have been grinding. Arsenal look rocky. The rags are well the rags. Chelsea are inconsistent

Agree with the tactics point tho. The high line has gone thankfully
Yeah, the top sides haven’t really improved but the mid table teams have definitely improved

I know it was never going to happen, but the nearest thing to a CDM was Jacob Wright. He may have struggled, but he may have given us energy and more of a physical presence and protected the back 3. as he has been trained to do. After loosing the game, it would have been something to take away.
As for James. it's clear he needs a season away from us or sale with a decent buy back. Gutted for him.

Agree you look at the team that finished the spurs game they were playing well and nearly got an equaliser! That team had Wright and O'Reily in

He's light years ahead of where Mahrez was at the same stage of his career. Plus, all the same people criticising Savinho were doing exactly the same to Mahrez when he first signed for us. People never learn.
If he gets 8 goals and 10 assists for us this season, that's a great start for us. I think he's more than capable of reaching those figures. He's got all the tools required to be a great player.
Mahrez won the title with Leicester before signing for us!

8 goals and 10 assists, not a chance.

A quarter of the season has gone and he has nothing like that.
Arguably we have a played a lot of the easier games too!

Needs to book up quickly, we do not have enough to carry anyone at present.

Anyone can see he had not made the most of the situations he has been in and then disappeared when the chips are down, not the only 1 btw.

That is not criticising, it's an observation.

I was called this that, and the other when I was criticizing us despite us winning earlier in the season, and, well, the chickens have come home to roost. I said giving Walker a three-year extension, despite Pep benching him in the CL final, was utterly ridiculous, and I have been proven right, for over two years now, at that.

The harsh truth is that Pep is more concerned about his net spend and how it looks upon his legacy than the quality of our current squad. I know that will be controversial, but surely this won’t: he’ll leave the club in far worse shape for the next manager than he found it. I refuse to believe he could watch Cole Palmer in our matches/training, day in and day out, and say,’ yeah, he CAN’T go on loan. He either stays or is sold.’ while having the CLUB’s interest at heart.

As I said before, a downturn was expected, but the squad planning has been awful, and if it solely has to do with the charges against us, then fair enough.

We’ve got a fight on our hands for the top four now.
What a load of bollocks

Joined in the summer after 4 in a row and went straight to town on Pep and Foden.

Foden won player of the season and you’re agreeing with quotes saying Pep mishandled his development ffs.

Now you’re coming out with “harsh truths” (utter bollocks) about a manager that’s made us a titan of European football.

I'm done with this team

Absolutely disgraceful stuff. Can't even do the basics right. Developed a weak mentality and can't hang onto a lead. Only a few players are doing their job but we've become bottle jobs!!!

Pep is a spent force. In reality, most managers get a good 10-15 year run if they're a top manager and that's their lot. Pep is probably there now.

Without Haalands goals we would be bottom half. And nobody can say we would play differently and players would make up the goals if he didn't play because they wouldn't, they're all performing shite. Haaland should be looking for his move away.

Every dog has its day and we have. We'll be pretty much on the same downward spiral the rags have been for 10 years.

But that's football. You can dominate forever. English football history tells us that.

I've had a great 3 years supporting city, since 2021 because I wanted to support Grealish but I've lost hope.

Well done Brighton. Great spirit. Definitely a team I might align myself with.
fuck off then

I don't know, I just feel alright about it. I'm certainly not here to lecture anyone who is upset or disappointed by the way we've been playing this season, especially because I have felt exactly the same in other recent bad patches of form, but something feels different to me this time. It's 50 per cent the feeling that we might still win the league anyway and 50 per cent the feeling that maybe we were overdue a shit season to really reignite things. We're currently enduring shit seasons at no more than half the rate of any other club in England.

Last time we had a shit season we went on to win four league titles in a row, and it's still too early to say that this season will definitely be another shit season. Or maybe I've just been spoiled by the team's endless wins and am fully prepared for a bad spell.

I can't really articulate it but this time, even though it is literally the first time Pep has ever lost four matches in a row, I've found it easier than ever before to just brush off a City loss and move on with my day. For most of my life a City loss would ruin my weekend. As you can imagine, it made Sunday school in the early noughties very difficult.

Again, I'm not trying to belittle or criticise anyone who is complaining or be a 'happy clapper' or anything like that, I can only say how I feel, which is that for me personally I'm not too worried. I think Pep will work it out, we'll end the season no lower than second in the league and that we'll ultimately still have a much better time than at least 75 of the other fanbases in the top four leagues. It'll be alright on the night, essentially.
Let me first say I completely understand where you are coming from and appreciate your position regarding those with concerns and criticisms. My biggest issue isn't necessarily with yesterday but with the fact that what we're going through is largely self-inflicted. Injuries aside the decisions we've made in the market recently are very difficult to digest in terms of remaining an elite squad. I'm not going to repeat the laundry list of things that have diminished the squad. Everyone knows them. My question is why? I don't claim to have a definitive answer but there's no question that our recent moves in terms of maintaining our level have been poor and very puzzling at the least. Asking questions does not in any way diminish one's loyalty or affection for the club. I could make an argument to the contrary.

That said, the wannabe forum tough guy branch of the happy clappers brigade can carry on calling fellow Blues all sorts of names in the name of some bizarre version of loyalty if that's what makes them feel better...
