Txiki Begiristain | Has left the club after 13 years (pg50)

Txiki can only work with what the club allow him and his team to spend.

It very much has seemed that the purse strings were tightened.

Though we've still spent a lot, the players recruited just haven't been good enough.
I would love to know why we were so reluctant to spend last summer.

Was it because the club thought Pep was leaving and they were stop piling cash for the new guy in charge?

Whatever it was a strange decision and one that has horribly backfired.

Grealish 100m, Nunes 50m and Phillips 40m, 190m and we have seen little.

And let's not forget what these guys are pulling in every week, that's a lot of cash for little return.

If you put all 3 on the market tonight, what would we get back? 70-80m tops for me and that would be some great deal in our favour.
Grealish was instrumental in the Treble culmination and has 2 PL titles - so not really very little.
Nunes and Phillips - bizarre treatment of both - but "seen very little" is an appropriate assessment. Not entirely their fault.

He had a very, very good period from November until the last weeks of the season, that apart he has been underwhelming at the very least.

When you look at the previous 4 summers, only Haaland, Alvarez and Gvardiol are decent signings, that’s a horrendous return when you look at money spent and factor in the players we got rid of. He admitted the summer of 2023 wasn’t great so you have to ask what caused the club to remain stagnant the summer after.

It has to be the uncertainty over 115, surely?

It was arrogance and trusting in Pep to find the marginal gains in the squad

No back up to your 35 year old right back , Pep will sort it
No back up striker , Pep will sort it
No legs in midfield …you get the idea
It’s hard to disagree but we did win everything anyway.

Arrogance tho? Nah don’t see it. Fell asleep for a min and relaxed.

Zero, "irrefutable evidence" and the club is dropping 300M plus on a new stand which makes any reluctance to go into the transfer market null and void.

This time next year we will have a 62,000 seats to sell and we need a top team with top players to do that.

I think it’s got to be this court case what’s going on and if it is then we can probably accept that as it’s a massive battle we are having .

Akanji, Ortega, Kovacic and Doku are decent signings. Too early to say about Savinho but he looks promising. Most people thought Gundog coming back was a good signing.

Agreed and I am sure Savinhio will prove a class signing, he is coming into a struggling side which makes it even more difficult for him.

I disagree

Akanji is ok when alongside stronger players.
Doku has zero end product and nothing in his game suggests that will improve.
Kovacic is decidedly average. Ask yourself , compared to other midfielders we have had, would he get a sniff of the squad never mind be a starter ?
For those players they are 6/10

Ortega is 8/10 for a back up keeper. He was a great find

Sorry I seem to have missed the pile on Akanji memo
Doku is erratic and probably doesn't deliver as often as he should. Zero end product is a bit daft
Kovacic played 30 Pl league games last season when we won the league. So yes he would get a sniff

In his spare time?

He is not working for us yet!

If the rags could get Amorim midway through the season why not? We cant afford Txiki sat on his hands bidding 20 million under release clauses in January. If we don't get 2 quality starting XI players in January we're in a fucking dogfight for top 4 and you better believe it.

Because they'd sacked Ten Hag and basically blackmailed him to come now. Txiki is here until the end of this season

Pile on akanji? Not really. Hes just not the strongest and can be exposed. As he has been at CB . Prefer him on the right

Ok ‘zero end product’ for doku is taking it a bit literal. Hows ‘very little end product’?

The writing was on the wall last season for me. Past experience got us over the line in my opinion. Kovacic may have played 30 games but hes a 6/10 player.
My point is , compared to past squads .. he doesnt get a sniff
