Hopefully more game time for some of the rustler players, no further injuries, 3 points, and some much needed restoration of confidence before Anfield.
I'm not asking for too much !

I hope KDB and Grealish can at least start this, they need to get some minutes in their legs before Sunday.

As we don't have a midfielder who seems capable of playing the DM role, i would play Wright there, tell him his only job is to sit in front of the back four, intercept through balls and track runners, then surround him with an experienced midfield.

Ederson

Lewis
Akanji
Ake
Gvardiol

Wright

Nunes
KDB
Foden
Grealish

Haaland

The trouble with Rico is that he doesn’t show any defensive qualities, even when playing right back. He says himself he prefers to be an attacking midfielder.

As was shown on Saturday his positional play and strength alongside an equally culpable Gundo were constantly exposed by Spurs

The midfield is not giving the defence the protection it needs. Especially when you have both full backs playing like wingers , they don’t drop in to cover like Rodri and previous DMs did

Another weakness with ↑ is that our wingers like Savino do not track back/lack defensive skills.

If only he could stay fit surely Johnny Stones is the obvious replacement for Rodders.

Don't really know anything about this lot, but do I need to be worried that they have already won away at Benfica & Girona?!

Looking forward to this.

We need more legs in midfield. So, assuming that Jack is now fit, he sits behind McAtee and Phil and Kev (assuming fitness) shift between right and centre, protected by Rico and Ajanji. Nunes is the legs, but with creativity and diligence ahead of him.

Certainly
Looking forward to this.

Certainly creativity in that team.

That's one word to use for Nunes as the DM.
Defending is not the job of one person.
Naturally, he would be aided by Stones, and/or Lewis.
In addition, Grealish/McAtee are able to defend from the front.
The issue, if there is one, is KDB/Foden and whether there is enough tracking from them of runners. That's where Nunes' legs come in, and Ajanji on the right of central defence.

Whatever team we put out, we can always say that an individual cannot do something. We cannot replace Nunes with Kovacic - he is out. Gundo and Bernardo have shown that they are not able to deal with athletic runners, so that means a different solution. I would have no problem sitting Nico alongside Nunes and making a more conventional flat line ahead, with just one No.10.
