Christmas holidays

Finish next Wednesday (or Tuesday if I can build enough flexi time up before then) meant to be back in on the 2nd but tempted to book that and Friday the 3rd off and go back on Monday 6th, full week back in balls deep prepping for our customer from over the Atlantic to visit the week after.

Best time of the year, loads of food, beer, football and darts. Suppose spending time with the kids is alright aswell

How much time are you guys taking off work for the Xmas break? (For those who are working).

I can’t wait to have some time off! Hopefully will have about two weeks off.
Work until early afternoon on 23rd, off on 24th & 25th, back at it late afternoon on Boxing Day.

Lucky to get that, as we are a 24/7/365 operation and about 40% of us are at work at any given moment.

It helps that our new contract has an extra 5:15 hrs pay for those who work on Holidays, so someone grabbing 10:30 hrs of extra pay has allowed me to be home with my wife and kids, and to spend some quality Holiday time with my MIL, for whom this is her last Christmas (Just found out the Big C has her in its grips for the next 3-4 months).

I only take bank holidays and leave days in between for rest of team who've got kids and grandkids. We've a new manager so not sure what will happen this year on Christmas eve and News Year's eve but in past we have had pub lunch between 12-2 then I let them go home and I stayed to 3.30-4 to cover.

Sorry to hear that mate.

And as Santa empties his sack in homes all around the world, you'll be emptying some birds sack in your hotel room, in Phuket.
doubt that, never been to Phuket and never intend to, plus don't think the the wife would be happy.

Lived in Thailand in my 20s for 2-3 years, married a local lass 5 months younger than me At 22 and married at 24 so I go for family holidays and visiting relatives, even before I met her when I did 6 month stint in Pattaya at 20 looking for a shag was not the reason for the visits ;-)

That sounds great. Love Thailand at this time of year.

Where you off to?
A. bit of a family thing this time, my brother and sister in law never been so all going with me ma n pa too (they haven't been since pre covid) so some.tourristy stuff rather than the usual lounging around our house in Udon for a few weeks

Bangkok a few days and christmas then over to ayutthaya as parents never been, then the river Kwai, r kid wants to see the history and hellfire pass, up to Home for New Year and see the family. After that 6 days in Krabi before flying home.

was originally doing Bangkok and tokyo before Udon and Krabi but prices were ridiculous and so decided ayutthaya and kanchanaburi rather than Chiang Mai due to time limits

Finished today 12 hour shifts 5am-5pm go back 6th Jan 3 weeks off , nature of my shifts ( Panama shift) plus being off sick for six months i recrued holidays so that’s me done . In reality it’s two days off now then the war office gets her to do list out.

Finish 20th then off to Langkawi on the 22nd for 6 days, new year in KL then business trip to Kota Kinabalu on 6th January for 3 days.
I'm in Singapore for three days, Lunar New Year in Jan then cruising around Asia before KL for three nights, back for Newcastle match mid Feb, a few bank holidays between now and then, nowt wrong with retirement.

What you've been though this past two years you deserve a bloody good break, anyone who doesn't know your story, just look up the Prostate Cancer thread. A57 is an absolute hero and an inspiration, seriously fellas, if you're middle aged and over take a look, you need to get tested, 1 in 8 males in the age demographic are at risk.

Very sad, when my MIL was diagnosed with lung cancer the docs said around 6 months, she lived two more years, there was no tears, no regrets. She did her Bingo, we went to the Greyhounds at Belle Vue, we had a laugh, we were very close. I was at her bedside at Willowood Hospice when she passed, it wasn't that sad, the nurses said she was a joy to be around. Cherish the time she has left, don't dwell on anything, it's tough but it's just the natural order.
