United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

The thing that I can't get my head round is how every single player is playing shit, there's not one player standing out in this woeful run. Add to that that we now seem to have zero style of play anymore leads to big problems. Where do we go from here, oh Villa away, yikes!

Gary Neville: “I thought it would come last year, I thought after the Treble there would be a natural dip. You CAN’T keep going, you just CANNOT keep going! You need to somehow have a break! They’re playing in Champions League games, FA Cup finals, Carabao Cup finals, winning Premier Leagues… they’ve gone playing for their countries every single month nearly, they’re then going playing in most summers and only getting three weeks break! And these players have been together so long on that journey, and they’ve just come to the end of that journey as a group! One, two, or three of them may have to leave - three or four will have to come in, and you’ll see a different #ManCity through those changes! It’s not a MASSIVE rebuild, it’s just getting their players fit and getting that adaptation to the squad.”

He's absolutely bang on. I always think he talks sense.

The last four years have been relentless.

Quite right .

The shit posted on here by some gutless turds should result in a sine die ban.

The raggish/dipper entitlement and hysteria portrays everything we stand against and everything we’ve criticised them for for years and years .

Show respect and understanding or stay of the forum !!
Sorry but It's it hard to defend his behaviour yesterday absolute embarrassment and I don't apologise for what I said about him. I don't think he's immune to being called out if he's behaving like a dick like he was yesterday. Embarrassing he was makes me laugh thinking about it.

All part of the 115 clearance agreement.

That's it in a nutshell. The group peaked in the treble season and did superbly well to retain the title and were unlucky against Madrid. Don't forget that all our titles except the 100 points one we have been pushed hard all the way, first by Liverpool, then Arsenal. It's been exhausting mentally and physically. The signs were there last season that we needed a refresh, especially in the cup final. Sure we've been battered by injuries but some players have hit a brick wall now and there's no coming back.

They are running on empty mentally and physically. Players playing while not fully fit because we're on the bones of our arse. They need the rest and to sort their heads out.
I get that... but they could be in the CFA getting massages, swimming, thrashing out the problems in team meetings / watching videos

They could have even all gone out on a team pissup today and cleared the air with a few home truths

Instead they'll be jetting off to here there and everywhere for a couple of days

Definitely. After everything Pep and these players have given us and the lack of pre season most of them had due to the euros, they've barely had any rest. I'd say its more important they do that and clear their minds for a few days. Hopefully a few more fit for Villa and the mentality to put this right.

I doubt they'll be jetting off anywhere in two days but they do need to recharge away from anything football related. Ideally a month off would be better. They're back Wednesday, plenty of time to do all the things you suggest and I'm sure they will.

apart from the pissup hopefully ;-)

Bit too close to the weekend

Absolutely, they're human beings not robots and have sweated blood for this club. Six titles in seven years, a treble and four in a row tells anybody that they've put a superhuman effort in with hardly any rest. Sadly age has caught up with a few and the rest have hit a brick wall. It happens. Getting a break with injuries, a settled team and a couple of astute signings in January and we could yet turn the season around a bit.

Yes. Some will move on; some will recover & we’ll get new players in

We have suffered some horrible Derby defeats since the takeover :
  • The late Owen winner
  • League Cup semi final at OT
  • The possible league clincher when 2-0 up and Sterling missing numerous chances
  • The Cup final
But this one feels different. In the defeats above we knew we were on the ‘up’ or undoubtedly the better team, but this feels different (Not that United are any better)

How have we let De Bruyne, Gundogan, Ederson, Walker, Stones, Ake and Silva (all over 30 and some injury prone) remain in the squad without gradually replacing them…..especially when Pep prefers a smaller squad.

I know we won the league last season but the signs were already there.

Pep has got plenty of credit in the bank but his utilisation of the younger players over the seasons has been poor and there have been times when we were either blowing teams away or that we were so far in the lead in the league that he could have played one or two of the youngsters so that they could have been ready to step into situations such as we have currently, rather than persevering with some of the old guard who can barely raise a jog.

I’m hoping Pep stays but he’s not above criticism and maybe a new DOF will freshen things up and is what is required.
The only youngster that we have made a mistake with in recent years is Palmer. Hard to criticise Pep for anyone else as we have been winning things. The summer of 23 when we let Palmer go and brought in Doku and Nunes was bad
