I disagree. Success in life isn’t as binary as success in a sporting context, there are many different ways to be a winner in life
Regardless, in one sense fans live vicariously through City and have experienced lots of excitement in the last decade
That said, I think some of the newer fans, for whom going to the match is just another entertaining experience like a trip to the theatre or cinema or a visit to an upmarket shopping mall, don’t mind so much about winning. Football to them isn’t such a tribal affair where seeing your team win is really important - but to a lot of fans that’s what sport is all about.
Back in the bad old days fans didn’t bemoan another disastrous result and say “one day I hope to be well entertained at the match”. They said “please god just let me see city win one thing before I die “
