If he was playing rubbish for them I could understand it but to get hardly any game time seems odd.

Pretty sure he's about to sign a new contractMakes little sense. He is decent. But 28 and isn't going to develop further..good player but has no exceptional attributes.
He is Rico without age on his side.
Could be a quick fix to the defence and help secure top 4 this season. Walks into out starting 11 easily at the moment. Would also make a very good RB backup if we end up signing another RB or CB/RB hybrid in the summer. This season has showed that 6 senior defenders is not enough for 4 positions. Will need 2 RBs long-term and Rico will probably end up in midfieldIf we are signing a 28 year old, we need world-class. Ola Aino is not on our level, IMO, even if he is an upgrade on what we already have. We need to look for long-term options.

People need to realize the defense will be a big overhaul, almost the size of Peps first overhaul after his first year here.
And if wr pay for a quality defender (60m), we probably want to offset with cheaper deals like Aina who can still play 4 or 5 years at the top level.
Akanji is the sort of cheap signing I loved we made. We paid Dortmund so little and he became such a strong RB for us.
