West Ham (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

And I thought I was a miserable twat.
Nothing miserable about stating the obvious.

I'll take the wins of course but we will not be back to playing our usually high standards for a while. What's wrong with being concerned about the way the play.

Even Pep has said it today that we was lucky. And we are not there. So is he a miserable fucker as well????

Great result, very average performance and lots of issues still to sort. We don’t press as a team, we don’t appear to know where the opposition players are when we are on the ball so we keep having it nicked of our toes, too many misplaced passes and too many players whose legs have gone.
Whilst Walker has been immense for us over the years, he has never been the brightest when it comes to positional play but our dominance of the ball and his pace has bailed him out many times. Now his pace has gone he is becoming a liability. Gundo is half the player he was two years ago and whilst Kova had a good game his lack of defensive awareness is an issue. We need to do what the dippers do and by pass the midfield, belt it up to Haaland and Savio and let them cause havoc. Having Dias back fit will be huge as it means Manu can go to RB or even sit in alongside Kova. Desperately need two or three new signings this month who have pace and physicality. Three points, move on and keep trying to grind out results.

That victory came via a deflected own goal, a defensive mix up and just 2 good pieces of play. The side that lost had twice as many attempts! In short, we were more than a bit fortunate.

Our inability to retain possession, coupled with a ponderous midfield, and a defence that has no shape nor knowhow, managed to ensure that even at 4-1, the game was still not safe! I cannot recall football this dull since Pearce was here.

Other than the 2 Savinho interventions, the game was turgid. There just isn't anything there anymore.

Well, that's 2 in the league on the bounce, 7 pts in 9.

Absolutely there were problems in that performance - you would struggle to find a Blue who'd say "yep, brilliant win, loved it" - and there's a long way to go to get better, so I think we should retain the positives. Some being;
- another win!
- Haaland was really good. Dropping deep instead of playing so high with the CB is working for him.
- Savinho's offensive game, short corners aside (!), is getting very potent.
- Foden had glimpses. Minor improvements.
- Ortega's good.
- Lewis and Silva are not about to lay down, despite up and down form, they're fighting.

Another 10 days to the next league game. Salford in between.

We are a very hard watch, have been all season. Can't put my finger on what has gone so wrong but we're an absolute shadow of previous seasons. Sporadic moments of good play is interspersed with dreadful passing and sloppy mistakes. This squad needs invigorating this window but as I've already said I think it will be the summer

Agreed, just got to hope rumours are true with the three this month.

Not sure that Leicester should've won. They weren't better and I thought the game was pretty even and we took our chances. Same today

We have played better in this recent run and lost. But we are taking our chances and not making as many mistakes. But we are far from being back.

Midfield remains a huge concern
Leicester weren't better. We deserved to beat them and we did.

Happy clappers are back out en masse by the looks of it.

Yes we have won 2 games in a row, which is great!

But let's take a look at the bigger picture.

Leicester should have beaten us last week. They created some really good chances.

Today we could easily have been 2 down with the Kudos chance and Soucek chance from 8 yards.

We don't control games in large parts like we used to. We have a 10 minute spell here n there. And when the ball is turned over the opposition are on the edge of our box within half a dozen passes.

And we are very sloppy with our passing and individual mistakes litter our games.

These wins are papering over the cracks in our squad.

Anyone can see we are not in the top 5 in the league when it comes to watching us play.

Swap the last 2 opponents for a top 6 side team, and we don't walk away with 2 wins.

Still a long way to go and I expect more disappointment than elation this season, the longer it goes on.
I’m happy to be a happy clapper and to be behind the team. I can see, when I’m at the games, that we need improvement in certain areas but I am here to give support and if that makes me a pariah in your eyes so be it.
MANCHESTER CITY THE BEST TEAM IN THE LAND AND ALL THE WORLD.

The point isn’t we could have lost after winning, it’s the chances we are giving the other teams, and the constant silly mistakes, bad passes, etc, players are making. If the players keep on making those same mistakes week after week, better finishers, and better teams will punish City. As Pep has just said, City could have been 0-2 down before City scored. That is Pep, not the fans.
We can all see the problems and yet at the same time we can be happy for a 4-1 home win. How many times have we dominated teams in previous seasons only to miss loads of chances and drop points ?
