Atmosphere 2024/25

Oh goody. Can’t wait to read how disappointed you are with atmosphere for the next mid table team that rocks up. I suppose it goes without saying you are a party animal for 90 minutes every game. I guess we’ll all just have to aspire to be you instead.
What a prick, if people don't question the malaise it continues. Are you happy with our current home atmospher?, don't answer by comparing it to others just a yes or no, is it good enough in your opinion??

If only we were like that one football club, and we all know who I’m talking about. If you’re not in your seat 20 minutes before kick off it’s like you’re late to a raucous party. You almost feel like you are pushing noise which takes a physical form. You get a high like you experience with trance music. At kick off, it feels like the stadium has taken off into another dimension. It’s a 2 hour roller coaster of visceral noise and emotion that doesn’t take a break even for half time. The concession stands sell one product, water! Just in case you overheat. As you leave the stadium, usually a good hour after the final whistle, you feel like you are phasing back into the third dimension after the best trip ever. All of this is just a midweek game against Southampton. Truly amazing. Can you guess the football club?

I think we should at least dream up a name for this fantasy club you slapped arse, moaning twats have created.
Sounds like hell on earth. An hour to get out of the ground......fuck that right off.

Why would you be arsed about German West Ham fans celebrating a goal in a 4-1 win you tight fuckers.
You’re right, you wouldn’t be bothered if it were an isolated incident, you’d be amused by it and think daft fuckers - maybe even shake their hand if you’re sat next to them.

But given that there are odious rags and dippers and Madridistas regularly in our end, seemingly with the tacit approval of the club, the sight of any away fans in our seats is seen as a symptom of a wider malaise

United Utilities have turned my water back on now. I’m in a much better mood. Sorry if I was grumpy.

To prove I’m genuine though and to answer your question. My opinion on the atmosphere is irrelevant. Me and you can’t change it. We are the football generation, and guess what? We got older. I don’t see the other clubs with an amazing atmosphere outside of the big games. The next generation of fans are tourists or far more interested in filming a great atmosphere rather than generating one.

My point is that you are trying to fix something un fixable unfortunately. I take on board your point about Dortmund, but as you know Germany has different football governance and culture. Tickets are cheaper. You can get a decent pint and drink in the bowl of the stadium.

Before the game even started you could tell how bad this one was going to be. It couldn’t have been worse really. Everything was wrong. The very occasional times when songs did get going there were 2 going at once so they didn’t spread. It felt disinterested, dispassionate, dissatisfied and the only times there was any emotion at all it was nervy.

Possibly the worst I’ve ever known at the Etihad, all things considered. I didn’t enjoy the game very much at all.

Todays atmosphere was fucking wank. I don't give a fuck if it was cold blah blah blah. Saturday 3pms are what we crave yet the only people who even attempted to sing today was the South stand.
Yes Yes I know it is common at most grounds but ours is really really poor at the moment.
Contrast and compare to our away following at Leicester last week.
Sick of people fucking off early now. No it's not my business but it is a wank look.

Didn't mind the game but totally agree Dave, one of the shittest atmospheres for a long long time. I really don't know what the answer is anymore. Clearly pricing is a huge issue for match day tickets but we all have a part to play including season card holders but wow that was so shit today.

It was bloody freezing and I think many wished they'd stayed at home or in the pub, but I agree it should have been better.
However it doesn't help when you allow a team as poor as West Ham to create two decent chances at 0-0. It also doesn't help when you declare with half an hour remaining.

There is an answer. The nuclear option. Get the singers together in the new stand. Give the ground one voice.

My worry with that is the noise moves to one end and we end up with the age old problem - three stands with no atmosphere whatsoever.

I also worry there will be huge numbers of agency / corporate tickets in that new end - 8,000 new seats, no season tickets, you can sense exactly what the club will be planning.

I am interested but I’ve pretty much made up my mind I’ll be staying in the South Stand and seeing how it all works out, then making a decision on relocation the following year.

Probably worth emailing the top 6000 points holders with a deal. Even if only 1000 take them up on it, they could all stand together. It would be better than the fragmented mess we have at the moment.
There’s loads of ways we could do it. Your idea is a good one. I’ve always believed that the first relocation option should be given to season ticket holders in the existing singing areas AT HALF PRICE. Call it a loss leader. And market the new stand aggressively as an atmosphere end. Once the momentum starts others will follow. But the move has to be massively incentivised because there’s a natural arms-folded-apathy amongst some of these fans.

Totally agree, it couldn’t be worse than it is at the moment. 500 singers singing one song, who can’t be heard by another 500 singers singing another song. Things can improve more than people think: there are thousands around our stadium who would sing if there was something to join in with. The guy behind me sings every fucking song in a low voice to himself. It drives me mad but that’s what one singing end will overcome.

It’s got to be done aggressively and properly and with a big push and incentives as I said above. If it’s half arsed it will fail, I agree. It’s got to make people like you move because you feel you’ve no choice. Price would be my answer.

I agree but whether it will happen is very debatable. I’m sure discussions around the top table are centred around revenue rather than atmosphere.
