A trip down memory lane.

Talking to my brother about away games when we were rubbish.

We brought up Port Vale v City.
I few things still stick in my head……

City had all behind the net and half down the side.

Gerrard Wiekens scored infront of us

Attacking the City end, every shot Vale had that went wide/over towards the City fans, we kept the ball. At one point before half time, they had to stop the game to go and get more balls from somewhere as they had none left. After 5mins of the game being stopped and giving the goalie a new ball for a goal kick, the City fans then threw all the balls back on the pitch so it had to be stopped again!!!!

I was young and it was the first time a saw City fans fighting with Vale fans after the game in the car park. Shit myself

I know it’s a long shot but was anybody else there?
The date and the score would be a bonus if anyone knows

I remember us winning 2-0 at Port Vale in the late 90s. I think it was the Royle second promotion season 99-00 but it might have been the one before. I was in a corporate box.

I went earlier than that in a relegation season when we were shockingly bad and lost I think 2-0. That might be the one you mean. Kinkladze couldn’t be arsed. Remember fighting afterwards too.

Remember winning 3 1 in the cup under Howard Kendal, City there in huge numbers. Can't remember too much due to an amazing pub crawl in Newcastle Under Lyme and my mates wife making space cake for us.

14/3/98 as per the other poster.
We got beat 2-1.
I think i might have gone to that one aswell mate

lost 2-1 it was 98, think that may have been day that Overmars scored winner for Arsenal at the swamp to shift momentum in PL title we watched in a pub near Vale Park, remember City fans being turfed out and some steward on a power trip , was at half time they had a match of amputees and that chant went "are you City in disguise"

Fucking hell that’s triggered a memory of the amputees that had been buried for years. There was a nasty atmosphere that day as it really was dawning on us that we could go down again.

I remember it well, not the game but the drink before it. We were there really early. Asked a copper if he knew anywhere we would get a booze. The pub was down a backstreet and was closed, we threw a few stones at a window and the Landlord let us in the back door.
We were the only white people in there and had a great morning, dinner time session. We played pool , dominoes and cards with the locals.
Sorry cannot remember the game, pissed as a fart.

I was there.
Went on the junior blues coach.
Pretty sure it was this game that Nigel clough made a tackle and was getting booked off the ref and the city end were shouting off, off, off. (If it wasn't this one it was tranmere in the same year).

I got a ticket once for the away game against Vale. We got our tickets a week beforehand from a tout outside Maine Road. I seem to think it was a cup game. When we got there I told my 2 mates to be on our best behavior as the tickets were in the home end and we didn't want to be clocked as being City fans. When we got to our seats we were only sat next to the great man, Clive Wilson, and spent the match being bombarded with all sorts of shrapnel. Clive actually confirmed our tickets were supposed to be complementary ones given to Darren Beckford

Remember going to SWP’s debut. 1-0 down at half time, won 2-1 from memory with SWP running the fullback ragged.

I went there FA Cup game 1991? Think we won 1-2.
Yeh, we were pretty crap, but we won 2-1. I took the missus with me for some ungodly reason and made the only accurate prediction of my entire City supporting life, as we won a corner and Clive Allen was subbed on before it could be taken.
"Clive Allen's coming on here and he's gonna score with his first touch. you watch", I blustered.....
