I agree my basic point was that he totally played down the genetic aspect,Syed was always derivative - his books were interesting but basically always built on stuff by Gladwell etc. I always viewed the 10,000 hours idea as a means of getting the most out of natural abilities - with the idea that guided practice & opportunity would get people to a good level in an area, but acknowledging that individual traits would set people apart. You can train to be a sprinter and improve all the time but still be beaten by someone else who trains and has more fast twitch muscle fibers etc.
I can't wait to see him in the PL!
happy birthday to .........Be bloody hard to come up with a song or chant for him,
Yeah definitely. As ever, it's always a mix of nature vs nurture. Otherwise he would have surely opened up branches of table tennis academies with reduced space as that was the sole reason for improved reflexes...I agree my basic point was that he totally played down the genetic aspect,
Blomqvist was a great player injuries ruined his career. His perfomance against Baresi, Maldini and the rest of the Milan team was one for the ages. No City player in history would get in that defence.Jesper Bonqvist won the CL.
I prefer to remember when the Goat mugged Neville off and showed him up for what he was.
Blomqvist was not a “great player” hahahaha!!!Blomqvist was a great player injuries ruined his career. His perfomance against Baresi, Maldini and the rest of the Milan team was one for the ages. No City player in history would get in that defence.
Neville was a good player but it was the players around him that made him look great. He is not patch on Zabba or Walker.
The game has changed underneath us, as the age of the technically brilliant, but slower, less strong, smaller players who made us successful, has increased to (beyond?) the tipping point. We have the same players in defence as last season (when we won the league) and bar Rodri, the same midfield.....I can't see how suddenly we need 'physicality'.....maybe playing wingers who give the ball away, too often, in the wrong places is causing it ;)
Blomqvist was not a “great player” hahahaha!!!
Very good for Gothenburg, but "great player" might be stretching itBlomqvist was not a “great player” hahahaha!!!
How many times did Spanish Dave make team of the year?Zabba was never the best right back in the country. Even when he was at his peak, Walker at Spurs and Ivanovic at Chelsea were better.
Looking at the PFA teams of the year. Zabba gets in it once. Hes a legend of the club and an absolute warrior. But that does not make him the best right back in the country.
Was convinced he would be a superstarWeiss scored a good goal for us once.
Hello everyone,
Lens fan here.
I come to tell you about Khusanov, maybe you don't know him well.
(forgive my bad english !!)
Khusanov strengths :
1) Physical strength !
Khusanov is very, very strong physically. Here an example :
Against Jonathan David, Lille, derby of north :
2) Speed !
He runs very fast, here an example of defensive run :
3) Tackles
Many slide tackles, very satisfying to watch.
4) Mindset
He is a very brave and a very determined player. If he has to take a shot right in the head to prevent a goal, he won't hesitate for a second. Courageous player.
In Lens, all players said they were impressed by his strength, even Kevin Danso, who is an extremely solid defender.
Weaknesses now :
1) Fouls
So strong and courageous that sometimes he goes too far. Yellow cards, one red card and some penalties given here in Lens. Example of red here against PSG :
2) Technique
Don't get me wrong, Khusanov is not bad at all - actually his passes are quite good, especially long passes - but he needs to step up for a top class club like Man City. Stop making fouls while defending.
Head game, he's decent, but that's not his main quality. Sometimes a bit surprised by long aerial balls.
In short :
Khusanov is a great recruit for the future. Very strong defensively. Can play at 3 or at 4 defenders, he played in both systems with Lens, so he is already polyvalent. He arrived in a very effective defence (the best in Ligue 1 at the time) and gradually earned his place with high level perfomances, putting the usual starter on the bench. I can not see him as a Man City starter right now, but step by step, why not next year ? I strongly believe in him.
Well, I'm done. If you have any question on Khusanov, feel free to ask.
Last thing :
Beat PSG please !!!
I think under Guardiola we have generally had quite a large number of strong/fast players its just that this season they've got injured/old a bit simultaneously. The game has changed underneath us, as the age of the technically brilliant, but slower, less strong, smaller players who made us successful, has increased to (beyond?) the tipping point.
The modern game is to not only be able to make a crisp 10 yard pass, but to have the size, speed and strength to physically dominate your opponent, too.
