Fortunately our club doesn't tend to look at short term fixes. That's no business strategy. And over paying for one player will lead to us having to pay more for any other players we want to sign too which is also not a strategy the club will follow. We will be accepting of the fact there's an uplift in January but we'll still have an overall business plan and a strategy beyond this window to address the issue we have. We won't sacrifice the bigger picture by panic buying now, and quite rightly.
I think this is a good mindset when the club is in a position to do so and still delivering results on the pitch. I think its a bad idea when the team has been playing like a relegation candidate for months.

I think the club would be moronic to ditch a long term strategy, one which has led to unprecedented success, in favour of a short term panic just to calm the nerves of a few fans who think being 2pts off 4th is a disaster after being the first English side to win 4 league titles in a row.

I just don't get how people can possibly think that a club like Juventus, would let a player like Luiz, go to a club like us, on a short term loan to fix our problems with no commitment, just because he hasn't fully kicked on less than 6 months after arriving. He would have to kicknup Cancelo levels of fuss, at which point we probably wouldn't want him anyway.
Yes I meant Luiz not Diaz!

There were rumours Juve would consider it. I think Forest were looking into it too.

I'm not paid millions to solve it and have the world biggest scouting network as help to do so. If you are telling me there is not a single DM in the world capable of helping our midfield that its possible we can sign, short or long term this window, I think you are wrong.

Would you be happy with Phillips back from loan? What about Essam el Hadary?

Or do players we sign need to actually be able to improve the team, to justify taking up one of the 17 spaces never mind the fees and wages involved. Assuming they actualky want to move, and their club are ok with it.

Hopefully we can get this agreed today and maybe in the squad for sunday? Even his current number is free and waiting for him!

No, we will want a player for the next 5 years not the next 5 months. If there is a short term solution then maybe, but most players available for a 5 month loan will be nowhere near ready to step into a Pep team and play as a 6.Luiz possibly could.
Don't forget that if they get a defensive midfielder in he will have to be good enough to be a number eight as well because whoever we get will be playing second fiddle to Rodri and therein lies the dilemma City have. It doesn't help City at the moment in our pursuit of a really great DM because we already have the best.

Of course I can (if it happens). I don't think people seem to know the difference between a summer window and a winter one. Name me a January window when we have signed 3 players commited to other clubs, to come into the first team. On top of Echeverri also coming in and Bobb returning from injury. That's a big big boost to the squad.

Look I don't disagree we need a DM one bit, or even that it should be the first thing to happen this window. But to assume the club haven't thought about it and aren't trying is just daft mate. We couldn't find one in the summer, it is even harder now in January. I think we may have to come to terms with the fact we may not sign one in the next two weeks.

Still won't be a failure of a window, not if we sign other players we also desperately need, particularly with such promise and demand.
You don't know that we went for one in summer though? You're speculating as much as I am and saying something cant happen or isn't happening because it's daft doesn't really back up your point. At least I'm going off the fact we've not seen or heard of any bids or strong links to us with a DM for a long long time.

i'm well aware January is a more difficult window to do deals but right now we have a huge gap in a certain position which is costing us points game after game and has been for almost 3 months now. This could ultimately lead to us missing out on finishing in top 4 (which would be disastrous for any summer rebuild) therefore I thought we'd have at least seen some evidence of a pursuit in a specialist DM - even if only on loan to plug the gap - to increase/bolster our chances of qualifying for the CL.

I'm not saying the signings aren't positive but I just don't see how they improve our season right now as long as the midfield issues are still there. I also dont think Echeverri or the other two young lads will play much given the situation we're in and Peps reluctance to throw in younger players.

According to Pep, we weren't looking for a DM last summer. He was happy to roll with Rodri & Kovacic. Without Rodri for a season, that's looking like an ill-fated decision.
